Interview with Animask
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m particularly proud of involved producing and mixing a modern metal track from the ground up using MIDI-based instrumentation. My role included composition, arrangement, production, mixing and mastering, shaping the track into a complete release-ready song.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently working on modern metal productions, mixing projects and developing new hybrid heavy tracks that combine metal elements with modern sound design.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’m always open to discovering talented professionals on the platform, but I prefer recommending collaborators depending on the specific needs of each project.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. My workflow is fully digital. When I started, I couldn’t afford analog gear, but over time I learned to trust the evolution of digital tools. They constantly improve, and for the genre I work in, I believe they offer the best flexibility and precision.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to treat every project with care and attention to detail, delivering a powerful and modern sounding mix while respecting the artist’s vision and musical identity.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Helping artists transform an idea into a finished production and hearing a track evolve into a powerful final version.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The most common question is how long the process takes. Typically a mix or master takes a few days depending on the complexity of the project and the revision process.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many people think mixing is only about making things louder, or that a “magical plugin chain” can fix a bad performance and bring a song to life. In reality, it’s the approach and the decisions behind the mix that make the real difference.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask about the artistic direction, reference tracks, the current state of the project, and the final goal for the release so I can shape the production or mix accordingly.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Choose someone who understands the genre you are working in. Modern metal requires specific production and mixing techniques to achieve the right balance between heaviness and clarity.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A powerful laptop, Ableton Live, my essential mixing plugins, a reliable pair of headphones and a MIDI controller.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started producing music more than 15 years ago. About three years ago I began focusing on mixing my own tracks, and it gradually became a real passion. I spent two years studying theory and learning how to properly approach mixing. For the past year I have been fully dedicated to it and continue to refine my skills with every project.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Powerful and precise. I focus on tight low-end, aggressive guitars, punchy drums and bright and crispy top-end
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Overall i thik Bring Me The Horizon, they push the boundaries between modern metal and electronic/soft genres. I enjoy working on projects that combine those styles
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Focus on balance before plugins. A well-balanced mix will always sound more powerful than a heavily processed one.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Modern metal, alternative metal, metalcore and hybrid heavy productions that combine metal elements with electronic sound design.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Creating tight, powerful mixes with controlled low-end and aggressive energy while maintaining clarity and dynamics.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring clarity, impact and modern production techniques that make heavy music sound powerful while remaining clean and balanced across all listening systems.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by analyzing the track and understanding the artistic direction. Then I build the mix focusing on balance, punch and clarity. After the first version, I work with the artist through revisions to finalize the sound.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in a fully digital production environment using Ableton Live with professional plugins, high quality virtual instruments, and a powerful system optimized for modern music production workflows.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by modern metal producers and artists who push heavy music forward, such as Bring Me The Horizon, Mick Gordon, and other producers working in modern hybrid metal productions.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mainly work on modern metal production, mixing and mastering. Many artists come to me with raw tracks or MIDI projects and I help transform them into powerful, modern sounding productions ready for release.
