Javier Flores

Extravagant Composer/Arranger

Javier Flores on SoundBetter

I adapt pop songs into almost any latin genre. Take a normal pop song and transform it into bossa nova, cumbia, salsa, etc.

Hi, I'm Javier. I'm a producer, composer and arranger. I love making songs and I also love re-adapting existing songs. I've always had a thing for trying to find ways to create new sounds, new rythms, and new emotions for popular songs. I'm also a pianist, and I have plenty of experience mixing and mastering as well. I'm always looking for the best way to get the best results, I'm easy to communicate with and my turnaround rate is faster than average. I'd like to help you take your musical ideas to the next level, creating compositions and arrangements that meet the highest standards.

Interview with Javier Flores

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The culmination of my latest album. I did everything in it. Recorded every instrument. Mixed and mastered every song. I think that in my latest album, I was able to blend my composition skills and my technical skills into what I think was a great sounding album.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm composing / creating one shots for a music creation app. I'm also cleaning and enhancing audio tracks for a meditation app. On the personal side, I'm getting started on fully composing and producing (mixing and mastering too) a mini album of popular 80's pop songs arranged for latin sound.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'm just getting started, haven't to the change to meet fellow colleagues.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Depends on the sound one's looking for. I do think that analog does give a sense of prestige to one's gear, but digital is more convenient and accessible.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will deliver my work fast, with great quality. I'm open to revisions, criticism, and discussion. I'll always deliver great quality work, with great levels of polish.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: That I get to express my feelings and creativity through music. I get to have fun while doing what I like. I also like that there's multiple solutions for the same problems.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: 1. If I hire you, where would this project stand in your priority list? A. If you hire me, this project would take priority over my personal projects. 2. How many revisions are you willing to do? A. I normally do two revisions before charging extra. I do try to have the finished and polished product from the first deliverable. 3. Can I rely on your swift communication? A. I will answer immediately for whatever question or discussion that emerges. Unless I'm sleeping of course.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That technical skills overshadow composition skills. I think the most important thing is to keep intention and have great composition.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: 1. Is there a particular sound you're looking for / trying to replicate? 2. For when do you need this done? 3. How much creative freedom do I get to have?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: That music-making is all about being creative and having fun. Even though likes are subjective, the quality of a song is something that's primordial.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Trick question, will there be electricity? My headphones, my computer + charger, my digital keyboard, my piano and my interface.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started learning piano since I was 4. I stopped for around 8 years. I then studied and graduated with a bachelor's degree in musical production and composition, in a local university. After that, I started composing and producing my own songs. I started freelancing around 2023, doing different things, from jingle making to audio curation. I started making loops and one shots for a music app. And I've continued doing my own arrangements of some of my favorite songs.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Some sort of contemporary-nostalgic sound. Bright, dynamic, extravagant.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Adan Jodorowsky. He's got such a unique touch in his productions, I'd like to learn from him and know his thought and decision process.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Always focus on horizontal composing, rather than vertical composing. It'll give the most creative and dynamic results.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Instrumental, cinematic, pop, indie, latin.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Thinking outside the box. Trial and error until I find something that truly makes the song better. Applied music theory, and ways to be flexible with it.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Creativity, innovation, great melody and riff composition. I bring intention and willingness to make the song as good as it can get.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: For my own songs, I like to get my ideas from playing piano. I then translate it into the ideal instrumentation I'm looking for. After that, I look into ways to get creative and try to find unconventional sounds that blend well.
