Interview with Eugênio Fim
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the core emotion you want the listener to feel? Is your project destined for traditional stereo or are you looking to explore immersive/spatial audio possibilities?.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for a producer who has both the academic depth to understand the science of sound and the practical experience of performing on global stages. Choose someone who offers a signature sound rather than just a technical service
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: logic pro pro tools ableton live UAD SPLICE OUTPUT
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been a professional since 1990. My path includes 20 years with the band Regra 4, international tours in Europe and the USA, and extensive work in cinema and advertising that culminated in winning the Gralha Azul award for musical composition
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is a blend of "Samba Groove" and contemporary innovation—a "hybrid" approach that respects traditional musicality while aggressively utilizing modern technology and psychoacoustic research.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I am always looking for artists who want to push the boundaries of traditional sound. I’d love to work with those interested in exploring spatial audio and binaural experiences, using technology to create not just a song, but an immersive world for their audience
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Focus on the 'breathing' of the track. Use psychoacoustic principles—like subtle binaural elements—to create a sense of space even in a dense mix. A great production isn't just about loudness; it's about the psychological impact the sound has on the listener's brain.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work across a broad spectrum: from Lofi and MPB to Brazilian Jazz and Cinematic scores. My background allows me to handle both rich organic recordings and experimental electronic productions with equal fluency and professional polish.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ability to merge deep emotional storytelling with advanced technical precision. Whether I'm designing immersive soundscapes for half a million visitors or mixing an intimate acoustic track, I ensure every frequency and transient serves the narrative and the groove
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: "I bring over 20 years of experience as a multi-instrumentalist and a Bachelor's degree in Sound Production. I add depth through complex arrangements, unique textures, and a 'hybrid' soul that respects the artist's original vision while elevating it with modern, world-class production techniques.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I begin by deeply analyzing the project’s emotional core to establish a unique sonic palette. My hybrid process involves high-fidelity recording followed by advanced digital processing, often incorporating psychoacoustic elements to ensure maximum listener engagement. I prioritize iterative feedback, ensuring the final mix not only sounds professional but carries a distinct, radio-ready signature.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I utilize advanced tools for immersive sound, including SPAT Revolution and Dolby Atmos for spatial audio projects. My workflow is powered by Ableton Live and Pro Tools, supported by a premium selection of plugins for binaural and psychoacoustic processing.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am deeply inspired by the rhythmic innovation and genre-blending of Tom Zé, whose techniques I've studied and integrated into my own 'plagicombination' workflow. I also draw significant inspiration from the precision and creative sound design found in major cultural festivals like Montreux, where I’ve had the honor of performing
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I provide full-scale music production and mixing services, specializing in creating deep, atmospheric sonic identities. My work ranges from producing complete albums for renowned artists and designing immersive soundtracks for major exhibitions to crafting high-impact audio for cinema and global advertising. I am an expert in both organic grooves and cutting-edge spatial audio.
