Remote Pop, Rock Mix & Master

SB Records on SoundBetter

I am a UK based mixing and mastering engineer with over 5 years of industry experience and over 10 million streams credited to my work on Spotify. I offer affordable rates and specialise in working with artists recording at home, helping them elevate their sound to match their peers.

My musical journey started back in 2010 when I got my first guitar. I dedicated myself to learning the instrument over the years fueled by creative passion. I knew from an early age, I wanted to create, not just copy.

I started picking up production, mixing, and mastering in 2016 out of necessity to create my own music. My early work was… rough, but we all have to start somewhere. I then spent the next few years learning from my peers and honing my craft, so that in 2022 I could really start producing, mixing, and mastering at a professional level.

Since then, I have collaborated with independent artists and labels with my work amassing over 10 million streams on Spotify. I love working with and supporting musicians and songwriters that record at home, allowing me to offer an expert touch to bring their work to a high professional standard. Whether it’s mixing, mastering, or a more hands on producer role, I look forward to collaborating on even more projects.

Interview with SB Records

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: It's boring, but make sure you're gain staging correctly, it makes the rest of your workflow so much easier. My advice is to aim for your input to be at -18 to -12 db when your fader is at 0 and the track is panned centrally. Input trim is your friend!

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: Pop, Rock, Indie, and Orchestral / Cinematic.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: My ear for low mids control, which is often the area of a song that spawns the most problems as it's where the fundamentals of a lot of instruments live.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: An experienced set of ears able to make informed, creative decisions to help guide artists to the sound they are after.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: My first step is always organising the project, setting up busses and sends for a smoother workflow. Then, my first pass of a mix is essentially cleaning up whats there: making sure I'm working with the best possible individual audio files, so gain staging, gentle EQ's and compressors. Then I move on to the real meat of the project and actually start "mixing" and getting everything balanced and spaced nicely, dialing in saturation, reverbs, and other effects. Then the final step is referencing and fine tuning.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: My studio is purpose built, and I'm proud to say I physically helped to build the building. I primarily with in Logic Pro, monitoring through Adam A7x's via an Audient ID44. The room is treated and was built with critical listening in mind.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: John Frusciante continues to be a main inspiration for my guitar work. And while I don't replicate his style, Mick Gordon is always an inspiration for me on a production and composition level, pushing me to always push the boundaries of music.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: I mostly mix and master for home recorded artists remotely, and sometimes working in person in a combined producer role. I do also occasionally work as a composer.
