Interview with ANJO
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am especially proud of my work on the song 'Choros' by the group FAMÍLIA RENOVO. In this project, I wore multiple hats as the Recording Engineer, Artistic Director, and Arranger. My biggest challenge and achievement was crafting an arrangement that honored the emotional depth of the lyrics while maintaining a high-end, professional sonic standard. As the Artistic Director, I guided the group to capture their most authentic performances, and as the Recording Engineer, I ensured every nuance was captured with clarity and warmth. It was a deeply rewarding experience to see the creative vision come to life from the initial arrangement to the final recording.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently, I’m producing a series of singles for indie artists, focusing on modern textures and polished sonics. I’m also in the middle of mixing an EP where I'm blending analog warmth with digital precision.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: If you have someone: "Yes, I highly recommend [Name] for [Specialty]. Their work is top-tier and a great complement to my services." If you don't: "I am currently focused on building new partnerships here, but I’m always open to collaborating with the many talented pros on this platform.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I prefer a hybrid approach. I value digital for its precision, speed, and recall flexibility, but I use analog (or high-end emulations) to add that specific warmth, character, and 'soul' that makes a track stand out.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is total dedication to your sound. I treat every project as if it were my own, ensuring clear communication, meticulous attention to detail, and a final product that stays true to your artistic identity.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the transformation process—taking a raw idea or a simple demo and turning it into a polished, professional production. Seeing an artist’s vision come to life and hit its full potential is incredibly rewarding.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The most common question is: 'What is your turnaround time?' My answer is that I prioritize quality, but typically deliver the first draft within 5 days. I also explain that I offer [Number] rounds of revisions to ensure the final result is exactly what they envisioned.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that 'the software fixes everything.' While technology is powerful, it’s the raw talent, proper vocal technique, and the producer's creative intuition that truly create a hit.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the core emotion or message you want to convey? Who are your primary sonic references or influences? What is your timeline and the ultimate goal for this project?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Have a clear artistic vision, but stay open to technical collaboration. A great professional doesn’t just execute your idea; they elevate it using vocal technique and production polish to make it stand out.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A professional digital piano (with weighted keys). A solar-powered audio interface. A high-quality condenser microphone. My laptop with my DAW. A massive survival kit (or just a lot of coffee).
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My journey merges performance with technical expertise. I have been working for [10] years as an artist and producer, moving seamlessly from the stage to the studio. This 360° perspective allows me to coach vocals and produce tracks with a focus on market-ready results.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A blend of technical excellence and organic creativity; I aim for a polished, commercial sound that never loses the artist's unique "soul."
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Jacob Collier, because of his groundbreaking harmonic language and the way he treats the voice as a complex production tool.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Give the vocals space." Always carve out a frequency pocket for the lead vocal early in the mix so the emotion isn't buried by the arrangement.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I specialize in Gospel, Contemporary Christian Music (CCM), and Soul, as well as Calm/Ambient genres. I focus on creating atmospheric arrangements that highlight emotional and spiritual depth.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Full-scale music production and vocal coaching, combining technical precision with artistic vision to capture the perfect performance.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A unique sonic identity, balancing precise vocal technique with arrangements that amplify the emotional impact of the composition.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Initial demo analysis, structural pre-production, performance-focused recording, and finalization through detailed mixing and mastering.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Professional home studio featuring a high-fidelity interface, reference condenser microphones, and an acoustically treated environment for precise mixing.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Rick Rubin for organic simplicity, Jacob Collier for advanced harmony, and Quincy Jones for technical and artistic vision.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Full music production, custom arrangements, and vocal coaching for independent artists.
