Interview with Carlos Timaure
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m proud of most of the projects I’ve worked on. It just feels amazing to create and leave your mark.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’ve been on another big marketplace since 2015 as a top seller, working on all sorts of projects — recording guitars, vocals, mixing, and mastering.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: idk
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, analog for tracking and digital for everything else. That combination keeps everyone happy.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is simple: I’ll make your track sound amazing without losing the essence of your idea. For me, it’s all about keeping the emotion alive while polishing the sound.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: To convey emotions
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Clients usually ask about the cost and delivery time of my services. I review what they send me and, based on that, provide a fair price and an appropriate turnaround time.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People often think producing is just pushing buttons or polishing tracks. But it’s really about capturing the artist’s idea and turning it into something that feels alive and emotional.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: My first questions are about the feeling they want to transmit — intensity, groove, or sentiment. I also ask if they have reference songs or artists, and whether they prefer a more polished or raw sound. That way I can adapt my approach to their vision.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I’d say: don’t be afraid to share your ideas, even if they feel rough or unfinished. The more open you are about what you want, the better I can help shape it into something powerful and authentic. Be clear about the vibe you want, whether it’s intensity, groove, or sentiment, and I’ll make sure your vision comes alive in the mix!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I’d bring my guitar, a tube amp, a pedalboard, my laptop, and a good pair of headphones. That way I could jam, record, and mix even on a desert island.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I began my journey as a live musician in rock and extreme metal bands, but also played tropical and latin styles, then a lot of jazz and world music on college, that mix gave me both the intensity of metal and the groove of Latin music. I’ve been doing this for 20 years now, and I feel comfortable working across genres and levels.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My background spans from extreme metal bands to tropical music in Venezuela. That mix gave me both the raw energy and precision of metal, and the warmth, swing, and sentiment of Latin music. My style is the meeting point of those worlds.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Parcels are absolute musical geniuses! I’m obsessed with their music, the arrangements blow me away. I’d love to produce them in a different genre just to see how far we could push their sound.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Running keyboards through analog pedals and amps gives them a real vibe and locks them beautifully into the mix.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My main focus has been on rock, pop, funk, ballads, and metal, though I have also gained experience working in hip hop, trap, reggaeton, techno, and other genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I can never pick just one, guitar solos, brutal metal vocals, or mixing, I love doing them all!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I like to think I lift the artist’s idea higher. Music, to me, is pure emotion, and my job is to shape it so that the feeling comes through. It’s not just about sounding polished, AI can do that. The real art lies in making people feel.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Every project has its own vibe. I usually start by listening closely to the artist’s ideas and notes, then I lay down the rhythm first. Once that solid groove is in place, I build the rest of the layers around it to bring the track to life.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio operates mainly in a digital environment, complemented by tube amplifiers, a wide range of analog effects and guitars, and an extensive library collection to guarantee the right sonic character for each project.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I get a lot of inspiration from bands and producers who push boundaries, from different worlds, people like Jens Bogren, Kevin Parker (Tame Impala), or even local musicians I’ve collaborated with. Their creativity keeps me motivated to explore new sounds.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Nowadays, I’ve been hired frequently to produce ideas generated with AI tools like Suno. I usually record all the instruments myself and then deliver a fully mixed track, ready for the artist to add their vocals, but over the years I’ve done a bit of everything, from transcribing sheet music to teaching electric guitar. I truly love music and feel comfortable working with it at any level.
