Dralon

Audio Mixing Engineer

Dralon on SoundBetter

I value a balanced mix with strong attention to detail! I find enjoyment in making each individual track of an arrangement fit together, like a puzzle piece, to show the full picture of an artists vision. I listen for clicks, pops, sound balance and sound clarity. Nothing goes unnoticed and I appreciate all genres, especially jazz, soul and hiphop.

I'm an instrumental music producer based out of Georgia. I've been creating music since I was old enough to slap a piano key and eventually found a passion for music production once I became interested in telling stories and emotional expression by the age of 9. Over the years, I created a catalog of spiritually-themed instrumental albums that I eventually shared online for others to listen to and be inspired by. With each project, I looked for new ways to improve my storytelling and expression, and eventually discovered the concept of "mixing & mastering".

Being aware of the message you're trying to convey with sound is what ultimately drives music design decisions. Knowing mix and mastering philosophy helps to make those decisions clearer and feel more intentional. One of my mentors mentioned that we can only enjoy our food when it's cooked just right. If it's overcooked or undercooked, it becomes unsatisfying, or at worst, indigestible. Learning about mixing and mastering was when I became more intentional about my work and began seeing the value in creating music that was digestible.

Today, I work with artists and content creators through social media platforms like Instagram, YouTube and Facebook by adding clarity and balanced performances. I also listen for deeply rooted audio issues and communicate ways to improve sound integrity. I'm optimistic and passionate!

Interview with Dralon

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: One music production tip that I can share is to keep it simple and easy to manage! If you're going to make it complicated, do it on purpose, and do it well.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: My strongest skill is being able to take information and things that are cluttered or incohesive and re-package them in a way that is clear, structured and intentional while retaining the original purpose that it was intending to achieve. This strengthens my ability to relate to and understand clients on both a personal and artistic level.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: I like to plan based on the problems I find while observing or listening to what's given to me. I start from largest to smallest issues and I break up each challenge by how much time it may take to complete them, typically going for the most lengthy tasks first since they help to get me into a flow state easier.

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: I currently have an Intel-based MacBook Pro equipped with Ableton Live and other media editing & production software, a pair of JBL studio monitors with a Scarlett audio interface, and a solid (favorite) pair of Sennheiser HD 560s headphones. I plan to continue upgrading my setup as my skills improve and my needs grow.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: I'm constantly inspired by music professionals as I find out their workflows, but I gravitate towards J Dilla, Anderson .Paak, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Tyler the Creator, ... including YouTube professionals who commit to serving and teaching communities how to do things themselves after working decades to achieve what they try to explain in minutes! I'm inspired by musicians and professionals who passionately dedicate their lives to their craft, especially those who try to give back to others in the process. To me, that's honest work and an honest life.
