Interview with Uminaku

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: i worked with two songs with a friend of mine named Bakaa Music that do sad / nostalgic french rap music one is a single named "merci major" and the other one is from his ep "Tristes histoires" named "Faut pas t'en faire" if you want to see it on spotify and youtube !

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: i'm working on my own ep, that i finished the idea just have to do mix and mastering

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: digital because my workspace doesn't allow me to have that much

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: unique sound identity, and honest opinion / guideline about your project

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: composing and creating music, that speak to the heart, that in sort can help your body to rest and for your brain to have a therapy if needed

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: can you do this style of song or this one ?Etc... it depend if i have the gear for it, (with the years i have accumulated gear so now yes), but has i said before, a track reference help to see cleary the vision you have in your mind ( and then after add your identity )

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Always have a track of reference of the result you want, this help to see the vision you have of your project compare to just explain how you'd like it.

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Guitar, Piano, microphone, laptop, loopstation because they are the fondamental of making every type of song that can exist in this world (for guitar and piano ) the rest is for having a backup

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: i've being doing this, for almost 6 years now, starting at home, then in college participating at choir, music projects in class, in groups etc, and after, now in the university, doing a licence in musicology. Basically learning to compose for choir, analysing partition of great artist like Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Mendelshon,etc... Learning to sing, to play piano, and the list goes on.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: i would describe my style as dreamy, fantasy, but powerful at the same time with a little touch of anime music style

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: i never thought about it, i think i would love to work with Ejae, SZA, OK, SleepToken because they have a vision of a music, that litteraly shake my soul ! And being able to work with them, can really help me to understand, why those songs are that special and touch the hearts so deeply.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: If i could share one important to me, if you want to learn music production, remake songs that you like, this will train your ear to recognize instruments, chords progression, arrangement etc... This method is also use by teacher for students in music conservatory, this prove how efficient it is.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: i started doing type beat at first so i've a solid formation on producing instrumental, and now after falling in love with electronic music, i work on Bass Music, K pop, and Neo Soul

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: clearly it s sound design and composing, i've spend thousand of hours trying and learning things for example on Serum, Vital, also layering etc..., at the point from now people arround me recognize my sound identity in the songs i make.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: emotional peace, rest, strenght, all of this in differents energy in the songs

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: basicaly i'm starting with a song of reference and then i do my own work based from what i learn, or working on sound design and then after starting composing from what i created

  35. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  36. A: i started with those classicals EDM artist like kygo, DJ Snake, then after i started to learn dubstep / bass music, sound design, and now i learn to make k pop and neo soul style of music in the style of galdive and Forrest.

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: i will do sound design, for animation / trailer / every type of video support, and for composing music with an artist i will help him to get the result he search with references, shared ideas, brainstorming,etc...
