My name is Terry Benn. I produce, mix and master music in multiple genres, as well as compose music for TV and Film. I work from a retreated farmhouse studio located in rural Ontario. My ultimate goal is to produce an end product that propels the stories forward and makes the consumer, the artist and director feel even more connected to the work.
Like many, my pursuit of sound started with playing an instrument, (in my case guitar) which then evolved to performing and touring. When I lost my connection to performing live, I dove heavily into the world of music production and composition, as I still loved making music. It always drove me crazy that my music never sound the way I wanted it too, so my obsession began to finally get “that sound.” Starting with recording engineering, I ended up working through each stage of production in depth and detail, all the way to mastering. I very much wanted the ability to finish a professional sounding track (start to finish), so I could understand every stage of the process. I spent years studying recordings I deemed of the highest quality, but more importantly the one’s that inspired me to create music myself. Since 2012, I have produced, recorded ,mixed and mastered the work of artists in many different genres, both locally, regionally and internationally.
Without going on too much about all the things I have accomplished, I invite you to check out my work on this site or preferably my website to get a scope of quality and genre versatility. Most of it has been mixed and mastered in house.
Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Endorse Terry BennWe started working with Terry in 2019. At that time we were working on a new single and hadn't recorded any new material in 3 years. We wanted to have a fairly big departure from our previous work and Terry was able to bring that to life! The setting of the studio is perfect to get you in the right mindset to create and record as there are very few distractions with being out in the country. Since then we have been back to record a full EP and another single! We have since moved to Vancouver and are willing to fly back just to record music with him so I think that is saying something!
It's a pleasure to work with Terry. He's a creative mind that excutes his ideas very well and efficiently. I have leaned on Terry to mix multiple projects over the past few years and he has enhanced some questionable tracking and always left me satisfied with a final product. He is a very easy going person to work with, and a good communicator as we exclusively only talk online to each other. Terry has taught me the importance of always making forward progress on projects and avoiding those moment where one's wheels can spin, leading to wasted time. He also has outstanding hair!
Hire him.Terry is unlike any producer I’ve ever worked with. With an ear for fine detail that seems unmatched when compared to other producers I’ve dealt with, Terry is not only unique in the way he works and dives in with an artist, he’s also so purely genuine it almost hurts - a true artist. I’ve put my trust in Terry with multiple clients and we’ve only ever walked away completely satisfied and inspired. I highly recommend enlisting Terry for your next project.
Terry has been my go-to producer for nearly 3 years now, and has a huge part in my band’s success. Not only is he a great producer, but he’s always fun and down to earth with the bands he works with!
Working with Terry has always been a pleasure. The songs sound amazing, his wisdom brings the tunes to life and the studio is comfortable and welcoming. Would recommend Terry 10000%
Always one of the first names to pop up in my mind when I’m thinking producing, recording, mixing, etc. He’s such a talented dude with killer ideas and easy to communicate with.
Very happy with my band The Backsteps results! Quick response times and professional service!
Interview with Terry Benn
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. It's a hybrid world.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: It will be quality, the experience will be great.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Bringing that track together and getting those chills.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How much is this gunna cost? haha
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I think because I travel to so many different genres, I often get overlooked because I'm onto another genre before I get a chance to get noticed in the previous one haha. Everything is quality though, I assure you.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have references and demos?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Have references and demos ready so we know what we are shooting for!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Pro Tools, Rode NTK, Great River preamp, API 2500 hardware, Dynaudio monitors
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: It's in my bio, but I started in a band, and ultimately ended up here in the pursuit of sound.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I always aim for the Rick Rubin approach, working the vibes, then the music.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: This is too hard to pick one. Not gunna do it.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Find proper references and use them! There's no better way to get close to something that's been "verified" good, and learn more about why great tracks are great !
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: It seems I'm in a different genre every project to be honest.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Bringing songs to life, making the artist feel good in the process, and making it sound as commerically viable as possible.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Everything I possibly can.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Whatever is best for both the client and myself. There are far too many scenarios to list but I approach every project with new eyes, fresh ears and an openness to learn from and about every musician I work with. Chat with me and we will find a process that works best for you.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a 3 tier setup. It starts with an old, but amazing Pro Tools HD Accel 10 tracking rig running on a 5.1 Mac Pro. This rig has almost no latency and sounds amazing. Connected to this are several quality high end preamps, eq, comps, and expansion slots for frequently rented preamps. After tracking everything is transferred my mixing and post rig running Pro Tools Ultimate on a 2013 Mac Pro. I am using a dangerous music dbox for a mastering converter. I'm loaded with thousands of dollars in high quality software. I mix in the box because being tethered to an analog rig is a workflow killer for me. The 3rd component is a windows based Cubase rig to run Virtual Instruments for film scoring and adding layers to client productions. My studio monitors are Dynaudio LYD 7's with a switchable krk sub to check low end and feel it.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Rick Rubin, David Bendeth, Chris Lord Alge, Andy Wallace, Hans Zimmer, Trent Reznor to name a few.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Full song productions, from pre production to mastering. I usually only do singles unless an artist has enough resources to get consistent quality across all songs. I am also hired frequently to mix and master singles, EP's and LP's.
