Interview with JoethePoet

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recently completed a full song project where I handled songwriting, performance, vocal production, and mixing. I’m proud of how the record translated emotionally while still sounding clean and professional. My role was to take the core idea and elevate it into a complete, release ready record.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently working on new music releases, client records, and building out high level vocal production services. I’m also preparing upcoming projects that blend storytelling, performance, and polished production.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I focus on delivering a complete experience for my clients, but I’m always open to connecting artists with the right collaborators depending on the project’s needs.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I work in a hybrid setup using high-quality analog front end gear with a digital workflow. My signal chain (Neumann U87 into a UA 710 Twin-Finity and Apollo Twin X) gives warmth, clarity, and character upfront, while digital processing allows precision, flexibility, and broadcast-ready results.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I deliver industry quality vocals and songwriting that feel authentic, impactful, and ready for release. My focus is making sure every record connects emotionally, sounds clean, and elevates your vision. I prioritize clear communication, fast turnaround, and a collaborative process that brings your ideas to life at a high level.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Bringing ideas to life and turning concepts into records that people actually feel.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Q: Can you match a reference style? A: Yes, I can match the tone and energy while still making it feel original and authentic.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That recording vocals is just about rapping or writing. The real work is in delivery, tone, emotion, and making sure the record connects and sounds professional when you decide to hear it through your speakers or headphones

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What’s the vision for the song? Any references for flow, tone, or energy? Do you want me to stay close to your idea or bring full creative direction? What’s the intended release (streaming, sync, etc.)?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Choose someone who understands both performance and production. A great record isn’t just about writing or rapping; it’s about delivery, tone, clarity, and how everything translates in the final mix.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Neumann U87, Apollo Twin X, UA 710 Twin-Finity, MacBook Pro, and studio headphones. That’s everything I need to be able to create and record anywhere I go

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: 11 years this upcoming October. I’ve built my career through consistent recording, live performance, and international experience, developing a sound that blends storytelling with polished delivery. Over time, I’ve expanded into full vocal production and songwriting for both my own music and clients.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Cinematic, emotionally grounded, and performance driven with a focus on clarity, storytelling, and impact.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Artists who value storytelling and impact those who want their music to connect, not just sound good. Like a J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Conway The Machine, and many others would be the range of artists I would love to work with

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Less is more Focus on clean recordings first. A great vocal starts at the source, not in the mix.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Hip-hop, rap, and melodic hip-hop with a focus on storytelling, performance, and modern production.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Delivering impactful, emotionally driven vocals with precision, clarity, and strong presence.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring intention, clarity, and a strong performance that makes the record feel complete and impactful.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I start by understanding the vision and references, then develop the writing and performance to match the energy. After recording, I focus on clean edits and vocal production to ensure everything is polished and ready for mixing or release.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I record using a Neumann U87 microphone into a UA 710 Twin-Finity preamp and Apollo Twin X interface, paired with Yamaha HS8 monitors. This setup allows me to capture clean, detailed vocals with both warmth and clarity, ready for professional release.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Nas, Eminem, Joyner Lucas, Kendrick, J Cole, Joe Budden

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I work with artists and producers to create full records from writing verses and hooks to recording and delivering clean, mix-ready vocals. I also provide creative direction to elevate the final sound.
