Interview with Ju-lyon Music

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: Started playing piano at the age of 4, vocal lessons at 8 and producing at 12 making ringtones in the caribean. Dropped my first ep at 13 and have been in this industry for the past 15 years. My goal is to become a successful recording artist with the music team God has given me and really help other artist along the way with all of the knowledge and skills I have been given.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: Organic, authentic, spicy, fun, passionate, encouraging, nostalgic.

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: I would love to work with Kevin Parker because I had first heard his music when I was deep into hiphop and his sound resonated with the melodies in my heart and opened a new door to me sound.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Be spontaneous, because nothing is perfect and people want authentic.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: I work on a lot of tropical music, edm, funk, and indie music.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: My strongest skill is fresh ideas. I still to this day have never experienced writers block, and what ever we are trying to accomplish in the music we will accomplish or find a way how to.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: one thing you will learn about me is that I am a very passionate person. Everyone has a song in thier heart and my passion is for that song to come alive and resonate with other.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: I start with the vision and start to build a template around that vision. Every song or project needs a foundation. Depending of what role I play in that vision, I sit back and let that vision evolve with those that I am working with. If I am producing the track I move quickly in developing the frame work so its organic natural spontaneous and not forced. Then once their is a framework then I review all the ideas and start adding or taking away.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: After interning in Grammy studios like the boom room in philly and working on recordings in Cider mountain CDA and Phil Nicolo's spot. I have tried to mimic what you can get from those enviroments in my personal project studio. With my education at Uarts and mentorship over the past 10 years, Ive have gotten to the place where I can hear and replicate what makes a billboard top 100 song.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: I am inspired by producers like benny blanco, Kevin parker and Kanye west, for their organic approach to music.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: Tell them the truth. In a business of smoke an mirrors I find myself as one who is not afraid to tell people the truth even if they may do better off working with someone else. As a fellow artist I understand how hard this industry is and would want to see you win and would love to get paid doing so but wrather see you win over me getting paid.
