Interview with Asgard Studio

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: At the moment, I’m working on mixing several Rap and Hip-Hop tracks for independent artists, covering a range of subgenres from Trap and Drill to Boom Bap and Melodic Rap. I’m also refining my A/B demos and creating content to showcase my mixing style to new clients.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Yes, I know several talented engineers and producers on SoundBetter whose work I trust. While I handle all mixing projects personally, I can recommend other professionals for mastering, production, or specialized services if a client’s project requires it.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I work primarily in the digital domain because it offers maximum flexibility, recallability, and precision. Digital tools allow me to shape every element of a mix with exact control, experiment freely, and deliver consistent, high-quality results efficiently while maintaining a modern, polished sound.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise to clients is to deliver mixes that are polished, punchy, and true to their vision. I guarantee clear communication, attention to detail, and revisions until they are 100% satisfied. Every track will sound professional, impactful, and ready for release.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: What I love most about my job is bringing an artist’s vision to life. I enjoy enhancing vocals, shaping the beat, and creating mixes that make songs hit hard while keeping the energy, emotion, and personality intact. It’s incredibly rewarding to hear a track transform and connect with listeners.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Customers most commonly ask about my workflow, how long a mix will take, and whether I can achieve a specific vocal or sonic style. I explain that I start by understanding their vision, provide a clear timeline, and offer revisions until the mix matches their expectations. I also often provide a free short test mix so they can hear my style firsthand.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: The biggest misconception is that mixing is just turning up levels or adding effects. In reality, mixing is about shaping the sound, balancing every element, and enhancing the emotion and energy of a track. It requires both technical skill and musical intuition to make a song truly shine.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I ask prospective clients about their vision for the track, the vibe they want, and any reference songs they like. I also ask about their recording equipment and the room’s acoustics, as well as specific vocal or instrument elements, preferred revisions, and deadlines. This ensures a mix that matches their expectations.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: My advice is to listen to the engineer’s previous work and make sure their style fits your vision. Communication is key—share references, vibe, and goals. A good mix engineer will enhance your track while respecting your style, and don’t hesitate to request a short test mix to hear their approach firsthand.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: High-quality audio interface Studio monitors Professional headphones Laptop with my DAW Essential mixing plugins (EQ, compressor, reverb, saturation)

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I started my career as a rapper in 2011, which gave me a deep understanding of vocal delivery, flow, and musical expression. In 2019, I began working as a mixing engineer, focusing on Rap and Hip-Hop. With over a decade in music, I bring both artistic insight and technical precision to every project.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: My style is clean, punchy, and modern, with a focus on Rap/Hip-Hop vocals. I aim for mixes that hit hard, with clarity in the vocals, impactful drums, and a balanced low-end, while keeping the energy, vibe, and emotion of the song intact.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I’d love to work with artists like Travis Scott, J. Cole, or Kendrick Lamar because they push creativity and emotion in Hip-Hop. On the German side, artists like Kollegah inspire me with their unique flow and lyricism. Collaborating with artists who value strong vocals and powerful production allows me to bring mixes to the next level.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: One tip I always use: make sure your vocals sit clearly in the mix without overpowering the beat. Use EQ to carve space, subtle compression for consistency, and carefully automate volume or effects. This keeps the mix punchy, balanced, and professional.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I usually work on Rap and Hip-Hop, covering all subgenres including Trap, Drill, Boom Bap, Melodic Rap, and mainstream Hip-Hop. My experience as a rapper helps me understand vocal delivery and flow, allowing me to create mixes that hit hard while keeping the artist’s unique style intact.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: My strongest skill is mixing Rap/Hip-Hop vocals with clarity, punch, and energy. I know how to make vocals sit perfectly in the beat, give drums impact, and create a balanced, radio-ready mix that translates well on all playback systems, while keeping the artist’s style and vibe intact.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: I bring clarity, energy, and professional polish to every track. My experience as a rapper and mixing engineer allows me to enhance vocals, tighten drums, and create balanced, punchy mixes that make every song hit hard while keeping the artist’s vision and vibe intact.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: My typical process starts with a thorough listening session to understand the artist’s vision and the vibe of the track. I then clean and tune vocals, shape the drums and bass for punch and clarity, and balance all elements using EQ, compression, and effects. I provide drafts for feedback and make revisions until the mix fully matches the artist’s goals, delivering a polished, radio-ready final product.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I work from a professional, rented studio fully equipped for Rap/Hip-Hop mixing. The space features high-quality monitors, headphones, and an optimized acoustic environment for precise sound. I use digital plugins to deliver clean, punchy vocals, tight drums, and full mixes that translate perfectly on all platforms.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: I’m inspired by top mix engineers like Jaycen Joshua, Derek Ali, and Mike Dean for their clarity, depth, and impact in modern rap. I also draw influence from producers like Metro Boomin and Hit-Boy. On the German side, creatives like Masri, Miksu/Macloud, and Bazzazian inspire me with their unique sound design and innovative approach to Hip-Hop.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I mainly mix Rap/Hip-Hop vocals and full tracks, focusing on clean, powerful, radio-ready sound. Most clients come to me for sharp vocal clarity, punchy low end, modern FX, and a balanced overall mix that translates well on all platforms. I deliver mixes that hit hard and stand out.
