Interview with Samuel Iglesias
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The opportunity to take each new challenge and overcome with professionalism and a good work ethic. Combining those elements with the joy of creating great music is a blast.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: EDM artist Inevitable. Have done sooo many projects with him since circa 2017, and it's a pleasure to work with so much dialog and trust in my skillset as both a programmer and as a performing musician/music theorist.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Love them both! My gear is definitely more digital, but I'm finding myself having to emulate/imitate analog every now and then.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Even in the hardest situations or elements to solve, I will always develop the tools to solve them, and as closely as possible to the client's perspective.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Modern, dynamic, and unique sounds that speak eloquently. Audible arrangements in which the soul of the music will always come first.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Let patience and perseverance drive you, but not get you stuck. The context and mindset in which you lay out new ideas matter a lot.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Voicing (distributing each note) the different elements with varying sounds (like synthesizers), and arranging organic elements (such as a string ensemble) in a very stable way that fits the overall mix. In the same way, choosing the best options for which chords and harmonic movements to use in key structural moments of the arrangement.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A robust, musically fluent, and working drive to a song that becomes whole within intself. I always ensure it in one way or another.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Contemporary funk and jazz fusion musicians such as Vulfpeck, Cory Wong, Dirty Loops. Top EDM producers such as Tiesto, Knife Party, Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Programmer of an EDM song, whether partially or fully. I also assess the chord structure of a song, and troubleshoot any creative blocks in regards to harmony and making all the notes fit.
