Interview with Christian Ford
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My song called "Pain 2 Peace". I'm proud of it because it captures the feelings of pain and also captures the feeling of triumph over that pain.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m writing new singles, building up a catalog for 2025 releases, and working with independent artists to help them develop their sound.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet, but I’m always open to collaborating with other great creatives.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. It’s faster, cleaner, more flexible, and makes remote collaboration seamless — which is essential today.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To deliver emotional, high-quality songwriting and vocals that elevate your record and make your song feel alive.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Helping people turn their emotions and ideas into something real — something they can release, be proud of, and connect with others through.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “How fast can you finish it?” My answer: “Typically 3–5 days, depending on the complexity. I want to make sure you get the best version possible.”
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That writing and recording vocals is fast and effortless. It takes intention, emotion, multiple takes, and a lot of refining to make something truly great.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: • What emotion do you want the listener to feel? • Do you have any reference songs? • What type of delivery or tone do you prefer? • What’s your deadline?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know the feeling you want your song to have. You don’t need every detail figured out — emotion and direction are enough. The rest is my job.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: • My main vocal mic • Audio interface • Laptop • Headphones • Notebook for writing
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been making music for 20 years. I started writing and recording at a young age, experimenting with rap, melody, and storytelling. Over the years I grew into my sound, released music independently, and built up over 7 million total streams while collaborating with artists around the world.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Melodic, emotional, and honest. I blend rap cadences with R&B-influenced melodies to create songs that hit hard and stay stuck in your head.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: J. Cole because he is able to tell a story but still have a catchy melody.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don’t force emotion — build around it. If the feeling of the song is clear, flow, cadence, and delivery start taking care of themselves.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Primarily hip-hop, melodic rap, and R&B. I also work on pop records where artists want emotional depth or smooth melodic hooks.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Writing powerful hooks and emotionally driven verses. I’m great at blending melody with rhythm in a way that feels natural and memorable.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: motion, melody, and meaning. I bring a unique vocal tone, strong songwriting instincts, and a deep understanding of flow, cadence, and structure. I make songs feel real — something listeners connect with instantly.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: After hearing your idea or receiving your beat, I take time to understand the emotion, message, and energy you’re aiming for. I write the hook or verse, record multiple takes to capture the right tone, then comp and clean the vocals before sending them back. I keep communication open the whole time so we stay aligned.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record in a dedicated home studio built for clean, high-quality vocal tracking. I use a professional mic chain, a treated recording space, and industry-standard plugins to deliver radio-ready vocals. Everything is set up for speed, clarity, and consistency so clients always get quality results.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists who blend emotion with melody — Drake, Juice WRLD, Post Malone, and XXXTentacion, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem. I also study the songwriting approach of artists like J. Cole and The Weeknd, Michael Jackson, Prince.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common work I do is writing and performing rap verses, pop verses, hooks, and melodic toplines. Artists come to me when they need emotion, clarity, and a unique vocal presence that elevates their record. I help shape ideas, refine concepts, and turn rough sketches into finished, release-ready songs.
