I write, translate and adapt lyrics for international recording artists and composers. I translate into English from German, Hungarian, Romanian and Russian. My work is used in three albums by Kistehén, three compositions by Gregory Vajda (one released on CD), and one album each by Vilmos Gryllus and Loui.
I relish commissions to write lyrics for an artist or composer, and I also love the exploration of being given an unfamiliar text that I must translate or adapt into English lyrics.
When translating, I combine linguistic precision and artistic creativity, to emulate the original meaning, style, and tone, as well as formal elements such as rhyme and meter.
I am also happy to produce something a bit different from the original text, if the client wants adaptation rather than translation.
When creating song texts for singers, it is not enough to be true to the meaning and structure. It must be singable. This means, for example, making sure there are long, open vowels on the soaring notes.
I am familiar with these challenges and have successfully addressed them in the projects I have worked on.
