Film & dance composer creating cinematic, emotionally driven music for visual media and live performance. Experienced in contemporary dance, film, and theater scoring.
I am a composer and music producer from Guatemala, specializing in cinematic and emotionally rich soundscapes for film, theater, and contemporary dance. I have collaborated with filmmakers, choreographers, performers, and multidisciplinary artists, creating music that supports movement, narrative, and atmosphere.
My work has been featured in contemporary dance productions and film projects across Central America, including Festival de la Danza (Guatemala, 2024) and Muestra de Cine de Terror Xibalbá, with multiple official selections and an honorary mention.
I have also composed and produced original scores for artistic programs commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Guatemala, delivering up to 90 minutes of original music.
I focus on building immersive sonic worlds with clarity, intention, and artistic precision, collaborating closely with each client to ensure the music becomes an integral part of their visual or performative work.

Interview with Daniel Spiegel
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m very proud of a project called "Estigia". I was not only the scoring composer, but also one of the producers. I truly enjoyed being deeply involved in the project from the very beginning through to the end. Creating the music was challenging but deeply rewarding. The project gained recognition at several film festivals and was officially selected for Ícaro, the largest film festival in Central America.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now I am working on a personal project, I am exploring new musical ideas.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I don’t know anyone on the platform yet, but I’m looking forward to meeting people here.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Personally, I enjoy working digitally because of the endless possibilities it brings when approaching creative visions.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to give my best in every aspect of the musical project and to stay fully committed and focused on your artistic vision.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like the creative challenges it brings and how it pushes me beyond my comfort zone. I like building trust and strong relationships with my clients, and I enjoy seeing projects succeed.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: I’m often asked about the types of sounds or techniques I can incorporate into a composition. I explain that the creative possibilities are very broad, and that even complex or unconventional ideas can usually be achieved through the right tools and approach.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many people assume that the composition itself is the final product, but I believe mixing and mastering are essential parts of delivering a professional result.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask what the artwork is about and whether it has a specific theme or is open to interpretation. I also ask about the desired length of the music, especially for specific scenes. I like to know if they have any musical references I can listen to, what they want to achieve with the music, the delivery timeline, and their preferred way of communicating.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be as clear and specific as possible about your vision and goals. Clear communication is key to a smooth and effective workflow.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I would take my PC, my Casio keyboard, my audio interface, my microphone, and my headphones.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started in 2021, shortly after the pandemic began to ease. I began making music with my best friend, who is a film director. He started by filming short clips for fun, and I composed music for them. Later on, he moved on to short films, and through that work I began gaining recognition from other artists in my country. My music started taking me to different places and connecting me with artists from the film, dance, and theater communities. I’ve now been doing this for almost five years, and it has been an incredible journey.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would say I have a tendency toward rhythmic elements and I try to expand the horizons of what music can offer. I don’t like to lock myself into a very specific genre.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Vince Gilligan. I admire how detail-oriented his artistic vision is, and I love the way he turns ordinary scenes into cinematic works of art. I would absolutely love to compose music for one of his projects.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always keep studying, there is always something new to learn that can make your workflow easier.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My music ranges from atmospheric ambiences and cinematic soundscapes to emotionally driven harmonies and melodies that support the narrative and storytelling of the artwork being performed.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is translating ideas into music. Most of my clients are film directors or dance performers who often don’t use technical musical language. I excel at understanding these non-technical ideas and transforming them into concrete musical concepts that align with the client’s vision and intention.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I aim to achieve uniqueness in every musical project I take part in, without deviating from the client’s vision. I always strive to contribute what I believe best serves the project while maintaining a high level of quality and performance.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My work process starts with meeting the client to discuss the artwork and the overall goals of the project. I aim to get deeply involved in the creative vision and understand what the project is trying to achieve. During the first days, I deliver initial demos that explore possible directions for the final piece, allowing the client to confirm that we are heading in the right direction. Once I receive feedback, I move on to developing the full composition while maintaining constant communication with the client. Keeping the client updated on progress is very important to me, as it helps ensure that nothing is missed along the way. After the composition is finished, we discuss any necessary revisions until the final version is approved. Once approved, I proceed with mixing and mastering to deliver a high-quality final product.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have my own home studio, which allows me to perform and gives me the space to create. I use a PC exclusively for music production. I also have an AKG P420 microphone, which has served me well and has been part of many artistic projects. Additionally, I use a Casio CDP-S350 as a MIDI controller; its 7-octave range allows me to explore and develop my compositions in depth.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I get a lot of inspiration from Robert Fripp and what he has done over the years with King Crimson and his solo work. I’m also deeply inspired by Hans Zimmer and his unique approach to composition. Additionally, I admire the career of Jamiroquai’s frontman, Jay Kay. While there are many other musicians I admire, these three stand out as my main inspirations.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I create original and impactful soundtracks for their projects. I take care of every single detail and work side by side with them to create a unique musical work that aligns with their vision.
