Interview with Alysia J.

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: I promise to bring creativity, professionalism, and passion to every project.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I’ve been immersed in music my whole life, starting in church choir at age 4 and continuing through school, competing in solo and ensemble competitions and earning multiple medals. I began professionally writing songs for other artists last year, and my lifelong experience with melody and vocals allows me to bring polished, compelling songwriting and demo vocals to every project.

  5. Q: How would you describe your style?

  6. A: My style blends R&B, pop, and melodic rap with a focus on catchy hooks, emotive melodies, and relatable lyrics. I aim to create songs that feel authentic and connect with listeners, while also being versatile enough to fit a variety of beats and moods. My approach is both melody-driven and emotionally expressive, making each track memorable and engaging.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: I would love to work with Leon Thomas. I’ve been a fan since I was a kid, and I admire the way he creates with versatility and skill. I love that he incorporates multiple instruments into his work, blending different sounds to craft unique music. His approach inspires me, and collaborating with an artist like him would be an incredible learning experience and creative opportunity.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Even if you’re not a producer, always listen to the space in your track. Pay attention to how vocals, instruments, and beats sit together. Don’t be afraid to speak up when creating your craft. If something feels crowded, simplify it or move elements around.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: I primarily work in R&B, pop, and melodic rap, but I’m versatile and draw inspiration from all genres.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: My strongest skill is creating memorable melodies that stick with listeners. I also bring collaboration and flexibility to every project — I’m easygoing and work well with other creatives. I have a strong ear for sound, and even though I’m not a producer, I pay attention to beats and arrangements. If something doesn’t sound right, I know how to adjust it so the song shines.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I bring passion, creativity, and empathy to every song. My years of listening to all genres of music fuel my ability to think outside the box and create melodies, hooks, and lyrics that truly connect. I bring motivation to other creators. My energy inspires collaboration and I bring relatability: I can understand someone’s story or situation and craft a song that fits it authentically. My goal is to make every track feel personal, engaging, and emotionally impactful.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: My process starts by listening to the beat repeatedly to get a feel for the vibe and mood. I then focus on finding a theme or concept that fits naturally with the track. From there, I usually start with the hook or the first verse, letting the melody guide the rest of the song. I’m naturally inclined to create strong, catchy hooks, so developing memorable toplines comes easily. Once the lyrics and melody are finalized, I record studio-quality vocals. I typically write and record a song in one to two hours when focused and without distractions, ensuring a smooth, efficient workflow while delivering polished material for artists and producers.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I have access to a professional recording studio where I track vocals using quality microphones and preamps. I work with both live instruments and digital beats, and I’m experienced in recording demo vocals, full songs, and hooks with clean, studio-ready sound.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: H.E.R., Lauryn Hill, Leon Thomas, and Tank just to name a few.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: Songwriting for artists, create catchy hooks, and vocalist for demos.
