This engineer is always great at creating magic. He knows just how to glue a song into the ear. With all of the unique songs I've sent so far, this engineer always achieves at making the song the best it can be. This song in particular was full of many layers, and the engineer created a listening experience that is soothing and extremely enjoyable. I'm again very and absolutely satisfied with the product.
Again, I am very happy to have worked with Francesco. For this specific track I provided stems of which I applied heavy distortion effects to, which could be challenging for the wrong engineer, however Francesco proved himself to be the right person for the job. Francesco was able to create a mix and master that sounds warm and inviting— something very pleasant to the ear even with my aggressive distortion effects. I couldn't be more pleased with his work.
I am happy again working with this engineer. For this job specifically, I did suggest an EQ adjustment as a revision, which I understand is a risky request since it can mess up the tonal balance of a song, however, Francesco was able to apply great care in executing my suggestion while preserving the integrity of the mix and maintaining the industry standard tonal balance. My music is unique, and Francesco always impresses me with his technical/creative decisions that always exemplify the track.
Working with Francesco is the obvious right choice for me. He is able to greatly elevate a song using subtle decisions that show a lot of care went into the work. This is my second job with Francesco and again I was satisfied with the first version of his mix and master without needing to request revisions, though he happily offers revisions if felt needed which is awesome. This engineer has a very good ear.
Straight up professional— he made my song sound pro. My demo was paper thin and now it's thick and full and wonderful in the ears. Everything seems to sound the way it should and he has an exceptional taste to the point where he was able to make artistic decisions that were beyond what I could conjure. I recommend working with this engineer.
Taking for granted the great competence as a sound and editing engineer, what we loved most about our recording experience with Là Nua was the atmosphere pervading The Basement. I know, it may sound trivial, but it's not. Usually studio sessions are characterized by a certain race against time. Working at The Basement we might say that time has stopped. The making of of our album,"Just For Taste", has benefited from the great calm and extreme attention to detail. That said, what for us sums up the atmosphere in his studio is... five o'clock tea (look at the album cover...)!

Interview with Francesco Scauzillo
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: At 14 I started studying guitar, at 17 I had my first cover bands and we often played around in pubs and festivals. At 18 I started recording my first analogue works. From here began the passion for professional audio: I attended several courses of Sound Technician, at 21 I started my first professional activity, I worked as an assistant in several recording studios and finally in 2014 I opened my own studio. I have been in business for over 20 years already!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: "Schematically creative"; may seem like an contradiction, but actually it's the basis for a great mix: basically, in the mix I apply well-established techniques and processes, following a precise work scheme and then I switch to experimentation, that leaves total room for creativity.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I have no preference. I believe that with all artists, both professionals and amateurs, you can have important and constructive experiences, always learning new things, modifying established techniques and applying new experiments.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I really like, especially for EDM and HipHop, to use the ISOL8 plugin to split the bass on two separate tracks: the first one works on the range 35-85hz, the second one from 85hz up. In this way I can always find the right bass tone giving the mix as much depth as possible, which is essential for today's music genres.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work in all genres: hip hop, EDM, pop, rock, also Jazz and Folk.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I guess patience! The client may ask me to raise the voice by only half a db and then, in the next revision, ask me to do exactly the opposite, namely to lower the voice by half a db: I will always be happy to do so. Creative processes involve easy mind shifts, so the key to having 100% satisfied clients is patience. There are many technical skills to be used for good work, but the human side is equally important.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My goal is to give the song the right dynamic and energy as well as depth and loudness, a combination of elements that ensures a Radio Ready Song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: In the first part of the mix I immediately work with all the open tracks to have a global vision of the song: I just change volume and panpot to create a first balance, without adding any particular treatment. Then I work on the master bus, inserting my personal chain of plugins, set with the right setting for the song. After that I work in depth on every single track, adding all the necessary processes, starting from the voice, then the kick, the bass etc. The work ends with the stem mastering in which, although pushing to get the most loudness possible, I preserve as much as I can the original dynamics of the mix.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work mostly In the Box with a bunch of plug-in (Soundtoys, Plugin Alliance, Waves, FabFilter, etc.), but if I need to, I also use some analog gear from my studio like the Avalon 737 to add color to vocals or the TL Audio Tube Compressor to get more punch to the kick and snare. My studio monitors are the Genelec 1030A plus a Presonus T10 subwoofer. I mix in a large control room with a great acoustic treatment.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Serban Ghenea is a great inspiration to me, he is the best mixer engineer out there, the music he produces speaks for him. Also, mixers like Al Schmitt, Luca Pretolesi, Tchad Blake, are important references from which I learned many techniques that I usually employ in my workflow.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Definitely Mixing and Mastering, but also Recording and live for concerts.
