Interview with Donielle Houston
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I graduated from the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA), where I studied vocal music, and later pursued music as a minor in college. I’ve been writing and performing my own music since my high school years. Early in my career, I was managed for a season by Kim Sledge (of Sister Sledge) and was signed to an independent gospel label for several years. Over the years, I’ve collaborated with both major and independent Christian hip-hop artists, as well as indie gospel artists, contributing as a featured vocalist, hook writer, vocal arranger, and background vocalist on many of the songs I was featured on. My work has included writing hooks, arranging harmonies, and recording layered BGVs. I’ve also independently released my own music, all of it written, arranged, and performed by me, with some of it self-produced as well, including recent releases on streaming platforms in 2026.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup includes an AKG P120 large-diaphragm condenser microphone, Focusrite Scarlett Solo (3rd Gen) audio interface, Akai Professional MPK Mini Plus, JBL 305P MKII 3 Series 5" 2-Way Powered Studio Monitors, and Logic Pro as my DAW.

A: My style is a blend of urban gospel and contemporary worship; soulful, heartfelt, and rooted in the message of Jesus.

A: I work on Christian and Gospel music, creating songs that point to Jesus, encourage the listener, and carry a message of hope.
