Interview with Nycta
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am specially proud of my song Where We Belong. I love how I combined natural and orchestral elements with synthetic and powerful sections, the contrast between the epic string sections and the powerful roaring basses is not easy to achieve in a balanced way. I was the main producer and songwriter in this song.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My project Nycta is always a big focus of mine.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital is more versatile, analog is more natural, depends on what you want to achieve with it, each has its own use case.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I won't eat your wallet.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That I can express myself in unique ways.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People often don't comprehend how much work goes into my songs.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Why is this project important to you, what does it make you feel, what do you want it to make you feel.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Have your objectives clear, and use what you have available to make your vision clear to the provider.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My computer, midi keyboard, audio interface and my headphones, it's all I need to produce.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I worked on music for over 10 years now, since 2015, as a self taught producer. I received mentorship from popular artists like Kovan and Hayve.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Melodic, emotional and heartfelt. You won't even see a song where I don't deeply mean what it is about.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with the likes of Rival, this artist has a passion for interesting melodies and harmonies, just like me, and his unique style captivates me.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Do it because it's your passion, not because it's other people's wish. And then just have fun, when you're enjoying the process, things turn out better. And don't overthink your songs, you won't want to overproduce them.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: EDM genres such as bass music and drum & bass. However, I also have a lot of experience in the rock and metal scene, and in cinematic orchestras.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Creating interesting and unique melodies and harmonizations is one of my strongest points.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I am known for my extensive knowledge in music theory, specially in harmony, giving my productions a very melodic taste. My creativity lies with knowing all the rules in order to break them.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I tend to examine the material thoroughly to get an idea of what I'm going to do, then I work towards bringing my vision to life, with a clear objective.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup features a very powerful computer where I do most of my work in my DAW, complete with an audio interface, a DJ deck and a keyboard.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am deeply inspired by artists like Rival and Mazare for EDM, and bands like Beyond Awareness and I Prevail for metal and rock. Also have a heavy influence from Hans Zimmer and Gareth Coker when it comes to orchestral compositions.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
