Mixing & Mastering Engineer with 700M+ streams across 500+ credits including Tate McRae, Kygo, Dasha, Bishop Briggs & Jesse McCartney. Part of The Gifted (JUNO & Latin GRAMMY–nominated, SOCAN Award–winning team). Analog-hybrid mixing & mastering for release-ready records.
Hi, I'm James.
I'm a Producer, Mixing, and Mastering Engineer with 700M+ streams across 500+ credits, including work with Tate McRae, Dasha, Kygo, Bishop Briggs, Jesse McCartney, Sophie Simmons, Sam Tinnesz, and Sam Fischer. I'm also one half of The Gifted, a JUNO & Latin GRAMMY–nominated, SOCAN Award–winning team.
For over 25 years, I've helped artists turn great songs into records that connect with listeners. My goal is to deliver mixes that enhance emotion, translate across all playback systems, and compete with major-label releases.
I work through a hybrid analog setup using high-end outboard gear and Pro Tools, combining modern flexibility with the depth, punch, and musicality of analog processing.
As a songwriter, producer, and performer, I approach every mix from the artist's perspective. I know when a vocal needs intimacy, when a chorus needs impact, and when a song simply needs room to breathe.
Clients value my fast communication, collaborative approach, and attention to detail. My goal is to make the process smooth and enjoyable while delivering a final master you're excited to release.
If you're looking for a professional mix that elevates your song while staying true to your vision, I'd love to hear what you're working on.

Endorse James Bairian (The Gifted)3 Reviews

I've been collaborating with James for 10 years and I’m always amazed by his ability to fuse foundational knowledge and tasteful instincts with a fluid openness to adaptation and experimentation. James’ rare blend of skills are evident in his forward-thinking approach to production and mixing, where he manages to push the envelope while maintaining the nuance and restraint of a seasoned musician who understands serving the song. He’s a generous and reliable collaborator and I’ve been fortunate enough to be a benefactor of his many talents.

James brought my song to life with a polished, professional mix and master that exceeded my expectations. Great communication, fast turnaround, and a pleasure to work with from start to finish.

I have worked with James on a few songs for my Hip Hop album. He is always professional, and makes some really fantastic suggestions. His quality of work is really good, and having a handful of free revisions really made the difference. I liked that he made my passion his passion, and was super easy to work with. His turnaround time was great, and I will for sure work with him on future projects.
Interview with James Bairian (The Gifted)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been doing this for about 25 years. I started out playing in bands, then moved into production and songwriting before eventually finding my way to mixing. There’s something about finding the magic in a song and making the best parts shine that never gets old. Mixing is where I get to be creative, experiment, and lose myself in the process — it’s honestly my favorite part of making music..
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Leaving headroom and understanding the dynamics of a song are key to achieving a great-sounding mix. That doesn’t mean it can’t be competitively loud — it’s about letting the mix breathe and leaving space for the mastering stage to do its job. I focus on balance, depth, and feel, making sure every mix translates with power and emotion without being over-compressed.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Coming from a background in songwriting and production, I approach mixing with a strong sense of musicality. Understanding the emotion and intent behind a song is half the battle. Some mixes need to feel open and natural; others call for bold, creative choices. Listening deeply to the performance, the production, and the song itself is key to crafting a beautiful mix — something that only comes from years of experience.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I mix in Pro Tools through a hybrid analog setup with a 16-channel SPL MixDream and outboard bus compression and EQ, giving your track more depth, width, and punch — so it feels bigger, more open, and ready for release.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing and Mastering
