Interview with FLATBUSH LOTTO
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I honestly don’t have a preference. I’d say whoever I can catch a vibe with.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m especially proud of FXLSE47’s “UKYO” a concept album blending New York energy with spiritual introspection. I engineered, mixed, and executive produced the project along side Celo Blue. It represents years of growth, brotherhood, and mastery. Every song carries a piece of our journey from Flatbush to the world.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m executive producing FXLSE47’s upcoming album “UKYO” and developing a creative merch rollout through GETEM STUDIO. We’re also expanding our brand universe, merging sound, story, and design into one ecosystem.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not personally, but I respect anyone on here who genuinely focuses on artist development and quality sound. Collaboration over competition always wins.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Hybrid. Analog brings warmth, weight, and soul but digital brings flexibility and precision. Together they create balance. I use both strategically depending on what the record needs.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Every record I touch gets treated like it’s going to be heard worldwide. I promise clarity, honesty, and dedication to your vision no shortcuts, no ego, just excellence.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Watching artists transform. There’s nothing like seeing someone hear themselves clearly for the first time and realize, “I sound like I made it.” That moment never gets old.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q: “Can you make my vocals sound industry-quality?” A: Absolutely but industry-quality isn’t just about plugins. It’s about performance, mic technique, and emotion. I’ll help you get there from both sides.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People think mixing or engineering is just “making it sound clean.” In reality, it’s storytelling through sound emotion, space, and texture. The best records are built, not just balanced.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always ask: • What story are you trying to tell with this record? • Who’s your audience? • What references or moods inspire you? This helps me shape the sound around their identity, not just a genre.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who not only has technical skill but understands vision. A real engineer/producer doesn’t just mix your song they bring it to life with intention and care. Chemistry matters more than equipment.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: • UAD Apollo interface • Neumann TLM 103 mic • Yamaha HS8 monitors • MacBook Pro with Logic Pro & FL Studio • Retriod Pocket 😬
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as a producer fir over 20 years before teaching myself audio engineering out of necessity. Over a year of research and hands-on work turned my vision into GETEM STUDIO in 2021. I’ve been producing and engineering full-time since, building a name for quality, direction, and creative authenticity.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Cinematic street energy. It’s gritty, melodic, and spiritual at the same time a mix of Brooklyn realism and cosmic vision. Every record I touch has to sound like movement, like evolution.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don’t chase trends, rather chase emotion. The best mixes and beats aren’t about plugins or loudness; they’re about connection. If you make people feel something, you’ve already won.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly hip-hop, R&B, alternative, and experimental rap sounds that mix commercial polish with underground edge. I work with artists who want to push the culture forward while keeping it authentic.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Translating vision into sound. Artists often come in with a feeling or concept, and I know how to turn that into a record. I also have a strong ear for vocal engineering, making vocals sound cinematic without losing their grit.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring direction, emotion, and clarity. My job is to make sure the song moves people and not just sound good. Whether I’m producing, mixing, or engineering, I help artists elevate from “demo energy” to industry quality while keeping their soul intact.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Every session starts with energy and intent. I connect with the artist to understand the vision, what story they want to tell and how they want it to feel. Then we build the sonic palette, record, and sculpt the mix until it feels alive. I’m big on detail and making sure every vocal cut, reverb, and frequency serves the emotion.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: GETEM STUDIO is a treated recording space designed for warmth, clarity, and inspiration. It’s built around a hybrid setup: analog preamps and compressors for tone, paired with digital precision in Logic Pro. I run high-end monitoring, professional vocal chains, and a creative zone designed for artists to feel free and perform at their best.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by visionaries who build worlds through sound, people like Kanye West, Tyler, The Creator, Pharrell, Metro Boomin, and Mike Dean. Each of them combines technical precision with creative risk-taking. I study how they turn emotion into frequency and branding into sound.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in full-spectrum audio engineering and production from vocal tracking and mixing to creative direction and sound design. Most of my clients come to GETEM STUDIO for modern hip-hop, alternative, and experimental rap production that still hits commercially. I help artists find their sound, shape their records, and make their ideas radio- and performance-ready.
