Tompi Music Production on SoundBetter

Musician rooted in tradition, producer exploring fresh sounds. In my mixes, every track has a voice in the song’s story, shaping emotional, dynamic mixes that bring music to life and capture the listener’s imagination.

I’m a musician and guitarist who fell in love with music as a child and discovered digital music production around age 14–15. Since then, I’ve combined traditional musicianship with modern production techniques, completing full arrangements and mixes with a creative, expressive approach. I hold a professional sound engineering education, trained by some of Hungary’s top experts. My influences include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Twenty One Pilots, Queens Of The Stone Age, Awolnation, Foo Fighters, and Foals, which shape my approach to alternative, funk, groove, and electronic-infused music.

I have experience mixing and producing for artists such as Hungarocell, Dienes Máté (“DIEN”) album, Veszelka Kommandó’s “Bogár,” as well as live recordings like Kontroll Csoport’s 40th anniversary concert and Folk ME project’s traditional music productions. Each project benefits from my meticulous approach — I treat every track as a character in the song’s story, ensuring that every element contributes to the overall emotion and vibe.

Whether it’s online mixing, production, or full arrangements, I aim to bring life, energy, and clarity to every song, helping artists’ visions shine through in a polished, dynamic, and expressive mix.

Interview with Tompi Music Production

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Analog sound with digital tools 😄 If you can justify why an analog device is important for what you want to achieve, then go analog. I have such moments too, for example with guitar amps, but overall my workflow mixes both amps and plugins.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: Once we find a shared vision and excitement, I’ll work with you until the track truly reflects the song’s essence and moment, creating a result that feels like a worthy imprint of the music.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: My favorite moments are when I listen to a part or the final result with collaborators, and we all share that instant spark — smiles, nods, and a collective “wow” feeling, celebrating the joy of music together.

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: The biggest misconception is thinking that a mix can fix everything. If an idea or performance is unclear, inaccurate, or off, mixing can enhance, but it won’t magically solve fundamental issues.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: First, I like to hear a starting point: a rough mix for mixing projects, or the full song for production. Then we discuss your vision, expectations, and how each part should feel emotionally. Once that’s clear, we can start working!

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Your songs are pieces of your soul, so choose someone whose values and communication style resonate with you. Hire a person who supports your vision and mission, not just someone doing a job for money.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: 1. Laptop loaded with plugins 2. Audio interface 3. Electric guitar 4. MIDI keyboard/controller 5. Nothing else — the rest is for the weak 😄

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I started as a guitarist and musician as a child, and soon discovered music production software, which led me to full arrangements and mixing. I studied audio engineering in Hungary under some of the country’s top professionals. Over the years, I’ve worked as a recording engineer, mixing engineer, and producer for various projects, including bands, solo artists, folk recordings, and live events. I’ve been working professionally in this field for over 10 years.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: My style blends live musicianship with modern production. I love strong rhythmic grooves and analog-inspired tones, where you can hear the character of classic gear creatively woven into the sound. I aim to craft mixes and arrangements that feel alive and tell a story.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: I’d love to work with artists and bands who aim to create a unique, creative atmosphere, whose songs inspire me, and where I feel I can add that extra touch to elevate their music even further.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Throw in all your creative ideas first, then narrow them down to what truly serves the song. Let the track find its strongest story naturally.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: I usually work on alternative rock, funk-rock, and modern pop with electronic elements. I enjoy projects that blend live instruments with creative production, where each track tells a story and every element contributes to the song’s emotion and energy.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: My strongest skill is combining musicality with technical expertise. I help artists bring their vision to life by shaping performances, arrangements, and mixes that are emotionally engaging, sonically clear, and creatively inspired. I focus on making every track feel alive and true to its story.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: I bring both musicality and production insight to every song. As a multi-instrumentalist and producer, I focus on capturing emotion, enhancing the story, and highlighting each element’s role in the arrangement. My mixes and recordings aim to feel alive, expressive, and true to the artist’s vision, blending traditional musicianship with modern production techniques.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: I start every project by listening to the raw tracks and discussing the artist’s vision and goals. For recordings, I ensure the best performance and tone, then move to editing and arrangement. Mixing is about balancing clarity, emotion, and story, often suggesting creative ideas to enhance the track. I collaborate closely, offering up to 6 revisions, and aim to deliver a final result that feels alive and serves the song’s narrative.

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: My studio runs on an Audient ID44 and ASP800 with Neumann KH120A monitors. I record through U87s, Shures, and SE mics, use UAD plugins, guitars of all kinds, and plenty of percussive instruments.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: As a guitarist and musician, I’ve always been inspired by bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, and Queens of the Stone Age. I love how they combine great musicianship with unique tone, character, and creative use of technology - always serving the song, not their ego. In modern production, I really connect with Twenty One Pilots, Paul Meany, and Awolnation for how they blend electronic elements with live energy and emotion. For me, everything (instruments, gear, and mindset) should serve the story of the song.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: Most of my clients come to me for recording, mixing, and production. They often tell me they feel safe working with me - I’m patient, thorough, and genuinely care about every detail. I don’t just want to “get the job done”; I aim to find the strongest creative vision together. I like to help artists open new doors within themselves and express their soul through music. My mixes and arrangements always tell a story, not just sound good.
