Interview with Penta Pz
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’ve worked on projects that went Platinum and contributed to over 2B streams worldwide. My role as mix & master engineer was to turn raw tracks into hits, making sure the sound connected with fans and stood out on every platform.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently mixing and mastering projects for both established and emerging artists in the trap and pop scenes, making sure each track sounds modern, powerful and ready for release.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: There are many great pros on SoundBetter, but I always remind my clients: the best choice is the one that understands your sound and your goals. This platform makes it easy to find that perfect fit.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Analog adds warmth, depth and character, while digital gives precision and flexibility. My hybrid workflow combines the best of both to achieve mixes that are musical and reliable everywhere.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to treat every track with the same care as if it were my own — delivering mixes and masters that are balanced, powerful, and true to your artistic vision.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The best part of my job is seeing the reaction of an artist when they hear their song come alive. Knowing I helped shape that emotion and make their music shine is priceless.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The question I hear most is: “Can you make my song sound like [reference artist]?” I explain that I can match the vibe and polish while keeping their unique identity, so the track feels authentic and competitive.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many think I just “make it louder.” But my job is to understand the artist, shape emotion with technical precision, and make the song connect everywhere — not just boost levels.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask clients what inspired the track, which artists or songs they’d like to sound close to, and what emotions they want the listener to feel. That way I can shape the mix around their story.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My advice: choose someone who treats your music with care. Beyond the gear and skills, it’s about finding an engineer who understands your story and works with you to make it shine.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I’d take my Burl Bomber B2 ADC, WesAudio NGTube Compressor, Bettermaker Mastering Limiter, McDSP APB-16, and Amphion monitors — enough to keep the sound powerful, musical and inspiring.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My path began as a teenager writing and producing my own music. Over time, I fell in love with the art of sound itself and built my studio. For more than 20 years now, I’ve been shaping songs for artists — from rising talents to major acts — always chasing that perfect sound.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I’d describe my style as emotional yet polished. I blend depth and color from analog with the accuracy of digital tools, always aiming to keep the soul of the music alive while making it sound ready for the world.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I don’t dream of just one name — every artist I work with is special. I love music deeply, and what excites me most is contributing to a song’s journey, from rising newcomers to established stars.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One tip I always share: don’t rush into over-processing. Spend time listening to the rough balance and let the song tell you what it needs — the mix should serve the emotion, not fight it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Most of my work is in trap and hip-hop — from hard-hitting beats to melodic vibes — but I also enjoy working on pop and R&B. Each genre has its own energy, and I love adapting my workflow to bring out its character.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is translating an artist’s vision into a mix and master that feels balanced, powerful and ready for release — keeping the emotion intact while ensuring technical excellence.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring the polish and power that make a track unforgettable — warmth from analog, precision from digital, and the experience of 2B+ streams and 30 Gold & Platinum records.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process starts by carefully listening to the rough mix and references to understand the artist’s vision. I mix in Pro Tools using my hybrid analog/digital chain for clarity, depth and punch. Once balanced, I master the track to ensure it translates on every platform.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in Pro Tools inside a hybrid studio where analog soul meets digital precision. Burl conversion and Bettermaker mastering give depth and color, the WesAudio NGTube Compressor and SSL bus comp add punch and glue, while the McDSP APB-16 provides recallable analog dynamics. With Amphion and PMC monitors, I deliver mixes that are powerful, emotional, and precise.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I look up to Bainz and Teezio for the way they elevate trap and hip-hop, and Joe LaPorta for his mastering vision. Alongside icons like Mike Dean and Serban Ghenea, they remind me to keep pushing my craft forward.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mainly mix and master tracks — especially in trap and modern pop. My job is to make sure your music hits hard, sounds polished, and connects with listeners worldwide.
