I’m Benks Ez Boy, a Reggae & Dancehall recording artist from St. Mary, Jamaica. Known for high-energy performances and authentic street-rooted lyrics, I’ve released tracks like “Unstoppable” (with Vandal), “Gorillaz”, “Hustler Story”, and “Shame Dem”, gaining traction on international radio and party scenes.

My style blends the raw spirit of Jamaican Dancehall with modern global vibes, delivering both melodic hooks and gritty, powerful verses. Whether you need lead vocals, catchy hooks, or topline writing, I bring passion, professionalism, and authenticity to every project.

Alongside my work as an artist, I also produce my own songs, giving me a strong understanding of song structure and sound design that I bring into every collaboration.

Interview with Benks Ez Boy

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I’m especially proud of the Happi-Nest Riddim because it’s the first time I’m solely producing a major riddim project with multiple artists. I’ve co-produced an EP before, but leading this project lets me fully showcase my production, songwriting, and collaborative skills.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently producing a riddim project, the Happi-Nest Riddim, featuring 8 other artists, while writing new songs that showcase my style and storytelling.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I focus on my own work, so I don’t have personal recommendations, but I encourage clients to explore SoundBetter and find professionals whose style and expertise fit their project.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I like both analog and digital, but I lean digital for flexibility, speed, and precision. It lets me experiment, layer vocals, and fine-tune every detail while still keeping the warmth and character that analog elements can add when needed.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To capture the essence of your vision and put my all into delivering it exactly how you want, on time and with full dedication.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The passion I have for music. I get to do something I genuinely love every day.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Most clients ask how I’m so skilled at writing and performing but not yet widely known? I tell them I’ve been grinding quietly, perfecting my craft, pouring real feelings into my songs, and staying true to my style.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: People think songwriting and vocals are easy, but you need the right energy and vibes, along with creativity and skill, to craft lyrics, melodies, and performances that make a track stand out.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I ask about the project’s style, mood, and vision, any reference tracks, preferred vocal tone or energy, and the intended audience. I also clarify deadlines, revisions, and any special requirements to ensure the final product meets their expectations.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Look for someone who brings creativity and authenticity to your project, understands your vision, communicates clearly, and delivers quality vocals and songwriting.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: If I were on a desert island, I’d take: a quality microphone, audio interface, headphones, a laptop with my DAW, and a notebook for writing lyrics and melodies, everything I need to create music anywhere.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’ve been writing and performing music for years, starting out in my community in St. Mary, Jamaica. Over time, I developed my craft, releasing singles and collaborating with other artists while building my skills as both a songwriter and vocalist.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is real, thought-provoking, and deeply emotional. I pour out my feelings into every song, tackling topics listeners can truly relate to.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with Eminem because I’d enjoy matching his energy and lyrical intensity, while adding melodies and harmonies to give the song a fresh, polished vibe.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: I build vocals in layers to add energy and depth. I record the main lead, then stack harmonies and ad-libs, blending them carefully so the hooks hit harder and the verses feel alive, while keeping the mix clean and dynamic.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Reggae, Dancehall, Afrobeats, and pop-influenced tracks, but I’m comfortable writing and performing across all genres.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Writing lyrics and melodies that connect with listeners and bring songs to life.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring emotion, energy, and creativity to every song, crafting memorable melodies, hooks, and lyrics that connect with listeners. My vocals add authenticity and help the music come alive.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Understanding the client’s vision and style. I then write lyrics and melodies or record vocals, providing up to 2 revisions for fine-tuning. I focus on delivering a polished, high-quality performance that aligns with the project’s goals.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work from a modern home studio equipped for professional recording and production. I use a quality microphone, audio interface, and DAW to capture vocals with clarity and precision, ensuring every performance sounds polished and ready for release.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I draw inspiration from artists across many genres, including Eminem, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Drake, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, Burna Boy, Bounty Killer, Buju Banton, and Capleton. I’m inspired by Afrobeats, soft alternative, and a variety of styles, which helps me bring diverse creativity to every project.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Writing lyrics and melodies—crafting toplines, hooks, and full songs that capture emotion and connect with listeners.
