A1 Mix & Master Services on SoundBetter

Take advantage of my intro offers for recording, mixing & mastering. Hi, I'm Mike. I've recorded & toured playing drums, bass, guitars & vocals for several bands releasing self & pro recorded albums. Mostly heavy rock but I am able to deal in most styles. My skills and equipment have only improved through the years. Get in touch for more.

My Experience: I began recording my bands and friends on a Tascam 8 track tape Portastudio in 1998 featuring some of my earliest releases. Later I integrated a digital KORG 16 track recorder in 2000 - 2012. My Abandone project is an example of this era, recording, mixing and releasing my own albums among other projects. Eventually I got into DAW recording and production, building up other music gear. In recent years I continue to play, record and improve my mix & master skills by entering mix competitions and taking courses from Produce Like A Pro, Home Studio Trainer, Mix with the Masters and other resources.

Interview with A1 Mix & Master Services

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Abandone is my heavy punk rock solo project that I produced 1998 - 2013 era. I recorded drums on a Tascam Portastudio tape 8 track and other stuff to a Korg 16 track recorder. These were done before me getting into DAW recording. My skills and equipment have only improved since but it has been a great project. New single out soon.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I have new music ready to record and looking forward to more mixing and mastering.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not currently but I see familiar names. Hello to all!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: It all has it's place. I like to use analog preamps and compressors recording on the way in. I use digital plugins for surgical editing and analog emulation plugins to add character in mixing. Mastering will usually be digital unless more wamth or saturatiuon is desired. It all depends...

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Satisfaction. I know the sense of accomplishment with a job well done.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I really enjoy helping others release thier music. It is my passion.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Times or revisions. Neither is a problem. Most projects can be done in three days or less and my clients recieve endless revisions, if needed.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Working with music is easy. It can be but great art rarely is.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I want to find out what they want thier songs to sonically sound like. Not thier favorite artists but what the songs should actually sound like with reference tracks that fit thier music.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Research. Find someone with similar musical tastes and good personality. Hopefully trustworthy.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Music player, music, guitar, drums, recorder.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I began in my teens playing bass in bands, then drums, guitars and so on planning to get a band going but things change and I found myself liking the production side of music and have been pursuing it since.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: The musical style I play has been heavy punk rock in Abandone. My latest project I describe as psycho-delic rock is In The Blackout. My mixing style however, would be genre specific, source dependent on the material. Vintage or modern where it fits.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I think Trent Rezner could share as tip or so with all the projects and movie soundtracks he has done.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Get the sound recorded right from the source at the start. Words to live by.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I grew up playing in punk rock and metal bands so mostly that.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Loyalty.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  44. A: I do mixing, remixing, mastering and occasional session recording to add extra parts where needed.
