Interview with Rico 56
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't overthink it, I used to spend way more time overthinking simplistic details than I did actually creating art. Don't get stuck in a bubble you put around yourself!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: It depends, I'm technically all over the place. I currently make Dubstep/140 style for releasing on 'Rico 56', but I do deep house/chill house quite frequently for my secondary alias 'sunsett.' ! Not limited to anything, I love everything!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Songwriting/Lyrics have been something I've always been keen to do, even since a kid, so definitely coming up with the story is my favorite, strongest part!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Hopefully the energy you need vocal wise!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When an instrumental is given to me, I usually start with the vocal melody, humming and spouting nonsense until I have something i can feel. Then on to the lyrics and finding a story to talk about! After that, I message the artist for input before proceeding onto vocal layering and comping!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I recently upgraded from an AT-2020 to a Rode NT-1 and Focusrite Scarlett Solo build!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: In terms of vocal work, I'm heavily inspired by artists like Coldplay, Rufus du Sol, and Alter Bridge, the way they carry themselves on a track just feels so impactful.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Since 2021, I've been doing a lot of vocal work for different people and different energies, bringing life to tracks to the best of my abilities, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
