Interview with Tae-John

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: I’d take my laptop, audio interface, headphones, Yamaha monitors, and MIDI keyboard. These are the essentials for producing, recording, and mixing anywhere.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: Production and mixing are my strongest skills, but I’m proficient across all aspects of music creation.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: I would have to say my album STARZ with ART THIEF from this July. I co-produced, wrote, sang, mixed, and mastered the project. I’m proud of this album because it's genre-defying, showcases my layered vocals and production skills, and represents the vision and creative identity of Felancci as a company. 7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: To deliver professional, creative, and polished work on time, with clear communication and flexibility throughout the process. My goal is to help your music sound its best.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: Hip-Hop is my foundation, but I work across R&B, Pop, Rock, and cinematic sounds. I enjoy blending styles to create tracks that are unique and memorable.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I bring a creative, versatile ear and attention to detail. My goal is to enhance a track’s emotion, energy, and memorability, making sure it connects with listeners. I always say I don't just want to make a song but an experience.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: I start by understanding the client or project's vision, then create a draft (beat, hook, or vocal track). After two revisions, I finalized the track with polished production and delivery-ready audio.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I work in FL Studio and Pro Tools, utilizing industry-standard gear that includes UAD plugins, Yamaha HS5 monitors, a Lewitt LCT 240 mic, an Alesis Mini, and my MIDI keyboard for creating melodies and top lines.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Prince, Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, Juice WRLD, and Quincy Jones. Their innovation and emotional impact drive my approach to music.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: Typically, I create fully produced instrumentals, choruses & hooks, as well as layered vocals, to bring songs to life. This includes beats, background harmonies, vocal tuning, and comping; anything needed to make a track polished and professional.
