I have produced over 60 records, and played guitar in the studio as well as toured with Shelby Lynne,Justin Townes Earle,Lee Ann Womack,Mike Farris,KD Lang,Allison Moorer and many others. I have been making records in my studio in East Nashville for 20 years now and have accumulated a collection of tools that allows me to make the sounds I love.

You can feel free to peruse a spotify playlist of my assorted work. Just look for the JoeVMcMahan playlist. Most of these recordings were recorded, mixed and produced at my studio. But you will also find tracks where I only played guitar or mixed.
My production style requires that I partner on some level artistically with the artist. I want to know and understand what they are wanting to convey and who they want to convey it to. It involves developing and tuning the artists persona and incorporating that into the sounds and arrangements of the finished recordings.
My engineering and mixing are an extension of this type of approach.
My guitar style is versatile but tends to be somewhat organic, based in blues, jazz, rock and country. Acoustic and/or electric.
I'm happy to work on single tracks or EP's and I love rolling my sleeves up and getting in deep to make a full length record. Full length is when you can really get involved in "telling the story".
I'm happy to take work doing any or all of the work required to make great recordings. I love what I do and feel fortunate to do any or all of the tasks involved in making great music.
