Mixing & Mastering

ExplorerAUDIO on SoundBetter

I deliver professional mixing and mastering that brings clarity, punch, and depth to your music. With experience in jazz, synthwave, and rock/metal, I shape your tracks to sound powerful, balanced, and release-ready. High-quality results, fast turnaround, and an ear for detail.

Hello, I’m Jens – certified Apple Digital Masters Engineer. I know how personal your music is, and I treat every project with the same care as if it were my own. My goal is to make your tracks sound balanced, powerful, and ready for release on every platform.

Mixing brings clarity and space between instruments, while mastering adds punch, consistency, and the professional polish that lets your music compete with commercial releases.

I specialize in mixing and mastering for jazz, synthwave, rock, and metal, and I also have a passion for retro textures – from authentic 8-bit and 16-bit sound aesthetics to creative vintage effects – for artists who want a unique edge.

Credits include TV (Hamburg.tv), theater (Feine Künste), Creative Mornings, and various bands such as A Horse Called Horst, Skywalkers Hand, and Ritz & Weber.

Interview with ExplorerAUDIO

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: At the moment I'm working on a complete soundtrack for an indie game inspired by classic SNES titles. My role is composer, arranger, and mixer. I’m proud because I captured the retro vibe authentically while giving it a modern polish.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently mixing and mastering tracks for my Explorer Mindfuck Project, a 8 minute progressive rock song, I wrote and hired different musicans for. I mix and master for independent artists and producing original music for a video game soundtrack.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not yet — I’m new to the platform, but I look forward to building connections here.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, because it allows flexibility, recall, and precision.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To treat every track with care and attention, communicate clearly, and deliver professional results that meet or exceed industry standards.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Helping artists hear their music at its full potential. Seeing the excitement when they hear the finished mix is the most rewarding part. Music is such a great language, and has the potential to gather people all around the world.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Clients often ask, “Will my song sound good on Spotify and YouTube?” My answer: Yes — I deliver masters that meet platform standards and translate well across all systems.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Many people think mixing and mastering are just about making a track louder. In reality, it’s about balance, emotion, and ensuring the music connects with listeners.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I ask about their artistic vision, reference tracks they like, and the platforms they plan to release on. This helps me tailor the mix and master to their exact needs.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Look for someone who listens carefully to your vision and communicates openly. Technical skill is important, but understanding and respecting the artist’s intention makes the biggest difference.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My laptop with Logic Pro, an audio interface, a good pair of headphones, a MIDI keyboard, and an SM57 — reliable and versatile in any situation.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started as a musician playing drums, bass and piano and gradually moved into audio production. Over the years I’ve mixed and mastered for independent artists, podcasts, and game projects. I’ve been active in music production for over 11 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Clean, dynamic, and authentic. I aim for mixes that sound polished and professional but still retain the unique character of the music.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with artists like Space Debris because they combine musicality with sonic experimentation, which aligns with my own approach.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Always reference your mix on different playback systems — from studio monitors to headphones and even phone speakers. Consistency across platforms is key.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I mostly work on Jazz, Synthwave, and Rock/Metal productions, but I also enjoy mixing experimental and cross-genre projects.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is creating balanced, powerful mixes that maintain musicality and emotional impact. I’m especially strong at giving each instrument its own space.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring clarity, warmth, and a strong sense of dynamics. My goal is to highlight the emotional core of the track and make it connect with listeners, no matter the genre.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I begin with a careful listen to understand the artist’s vision, then shape the mix for balance, space, and impact. I revise based on client feedback and finalize with a polished master that translates across all systems.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work in a treated home studio equipped with Logic Pro, high-quality monitoring, and a TASCAM 8x8 audio interface. My workflow combines precise digital tools with a focus on musicality and authentic character.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I’m inspired by engineers like Conny Plank and Andy Wallace for their unique approaches to sound, as well as producers who push boundaries in both retro and modern genres.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I provide professional mixing and mastering services, focusing on clarity, balance and dynamics. Most of my clients come to me to bring their tracks to release-ready quality for streaming platforms and digital distribution.
