Interview with Taylor Mosley
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on multiple projects at the moment, spread between a hand full of producers. I just signed a publishing deal with BMG Rights Management and got a song signed by Eccentric Music/Universal Norway; soon to be released.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Nico Brey, M35
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I run Logic on a Mac Pro Waves Bundle A MXL 3000 condensor mic with pop blocker and a reflection filter. A.R.T. Mic pre A.R.T. Pro VLA II Compressor Moto 2048 mk3 interface Bx5 M-Audio Monitors (2)
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: As stated in my introduction, one of my recent releases "Heaven's Gate" has done very well. Angerwolf provided a great track. Writing to it came so naturally. I'm proud of it's growth, with it having over 1 million views on just one channel and being featured on multiple channels; I can say it's a success! My role on the record was singer/songwriter.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I think a perfect blend of the two works out great.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to deliver my best work, by really spending time on it to get the strongest record possible. Easy and fun to work with. Send updates on the writing process.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Man, touch question; cause I love it all!! But if I have to pick, I would have to say being able to work with so many talented musicians with their own unique sound. Being able to write to different approaches to music, is exciting and keeps me sharp.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have a specific concept in mind for this track? Is this work for another artist or are you looking to release it with myself as the artist?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I'm pretty darn chill to work with, can't really think of anything. If I have to, I would say; if you have a specific vision in mind for the concept/lyrics for the track let me know up front, so we're on the same page to when it comes to me writing the song.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If this island has electricity...?? Keyboard MacBook Pro Mic Headphones Interface If it doesn't.... Guitar ( I would finally have time to learn to play) Pen Pad Voice Recorder (with batteries)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started writing poetry at the age of 15, shortly after that I started writing melody to my poetry. Bought my first keyboard, taught myself to play; and added music to the words and melodies I had created. So.... I guess I have been at this for 19 years, but I always like to say a good portion of those years are the growing years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as a hybrid of EDM/Pop meets RnB. If you listen to my music, you would say, "ok Taylor is an EDM artist, but his written approach to this genre is unique" I believe that is due to me first writing in the RnB genre.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love write to a track by Zedd, Martin Garrix, Timbaland. I would love to co write with Ne-Yo. Why would I want to work with these artists, because they are experts in what they do.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: "Sometimes, less is more" "Don't over think it" * but at the same time put some focused thought into what you are wanting to create.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually find myself working on EDM/Pop, but I also work on RnB and Hip Hop tracks as well.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I would say my strongest skill would be topline.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring years of experience to a song, understanding structure, memorable topline, creative lyrics/conecepts, strong vocals and a open mind to work with the producer to create the best record possible.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process usually looks like this... 1. I receive a track from a producer 2. Start creating melody 3. Add lyrics to the melody/s created 4. Track vocals 5. Mix vocals 6. Edit vocals 7. Send full track to producer for approval 8.. Stem out vocals 9. Send stems to producer
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Man, great question. I would have to say, the track itself inspires me. But when it comes to artists I gravitate towards Ne-Yo, Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Timbaland, Diplo, Zedd. To name a few.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
