Interview with Diego Ceo

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I've studied the guitar since I was 9. I started playing into a band when I was 15. After the high school, I attended the University of the West of Scotland, obtaining the Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Music first, then the Master of Arts in Sound Production. I continued to specialized myself through other courses and I attended the Berklee College of Music for a year, going deeply into the music production with Ableton Live. I've started working into a recording studio since the age of 22 and I'm currently a former teacher at the University of the West of Scotland.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: My style is very Authentic, because it is just the result from years of hard work, studies and passion, together with different experiences into several musical genres. Through the years I think I've been able to assimilate what affected me the most from these genres and propose it under a different language, which is my musical and emotional language.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: I usually work on Electronic Pop Music, but I'm also very active into the Alternative panorama, from Pop to Rock shades. At the same time, I'm a Lo-Fi Beatmaker since 2019, able to work with Analog Machines and Samplers.

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: I'm versatile into genres which are very different to each others, but at the same time they haven't that stock aura. I'm able to adapt myself to the artist's needs and I'm continuously updating my competences and workflow.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: Authenticity, which does not need to be mine, but also the one from the artist herself/himself, who just needed to be discovered. My only purpose is to reach an original result, where each new track could be unique for the artist and the listeners, and where there's always something to narrate, through music and lyrics.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: I'm a great listener, so my first aim is always to meet the client, or the artist and understand her/his needs, what she/he wants to communicate and the communal purposes. After a first meeting, we can organize and schedule the work together, deciding for several day when we can work simultaneously face to face, or remotely, together with individual sessions where I send the result at the end of the day. I'm always open to speak to each other for the final product aim. For this reason, I'm open to any kind of revision and opinion.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I'm currently working with three different DAWs, namely Logic Pro X, Ableton Live Suite and Pro Tools Ultimate. I'm working with a small arsenal of analog synths, like a Yamaha CS Reface, a Korg Monologue, a Beheringer Model D and an Arturia MiniBrute. All these synths are sent into an analog mixer, where I can direct the signals, towards my SSL Audio Interface, or towards an analog chain of pedals. At the same time, I've the possibility to work everything I do inside my DAW into my Roland SP404, which is one of my favorite gears. I'm a musician too, and I've the possibility to access to the most common electric guitars, acoustic guitars, electric bass, but I also use an Upright Piano and other instruments, like a Banjo and several percussions. Of course, I own a good amount of libraries, from the Kontakt ones, to all the essential line from Spitfire Audio and other vst by Arturia, SoundToys, Aberrant DSP, Valahalla DSP, Universal Audio, Waves and so on.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: I'm a great fan of strong musical identities, no metter the musical genre. Currently, I'm continuously inspired by artists like Bon Iver, Dijon, Ben Howard, Fred Again.., but also projects like Jordan Rakei, Loyle Carner, Maria Chiara Argirò and so on.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: I'm usually a music producer, working with artists and songwriters on their musical identity and taking care of their productions. I'm also a recording engineer, and I've been commonly selected for editing and mixing processes. I usually work for collateral projects, like sound design commissions, or podcast editing, recording and mixing
