Endorse Liva Balsløw1 Reviews
Interview with Liva Balsløw
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My solo concert with Oslo Politiorkester in 2022. I performed 10 songs, including one of my own compositions, which they arranged and played. It was a powerful moment where my songwriting and performance came together on stage with a full orchestra.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m preparing new performances with Tryllefløytene, developing original children’s songs, and collaborating with producers on fresh pop material.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet personally, but I enjoy exploring the network of professionals here.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital – for flexibility and creativity. It allows me to work quickly, experiment, and deliver polished results from my home studio.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will always deliver with dedication, honesty, and care. My goal is that you feel proud of the final result and that your song shines.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That moment when an idea becomes music – when a melody or lyric clicks into place, or when a client hears their track complete for the first time.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They often ask: “Can you adapt your voice to my style of music?” My answer: yes – I’ve worked across genres and can tailor my tone and delivery to fit your vision.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That singing is just pressing record and performing once. Professional vocals require layers, consistency, and careful editing to fit perfectly into a production.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask about the story they want to tell, references for style, vocal range preferences, and whether they want harmonies or just lead vocals.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen to how a vocalist conveys emotion, not just technical skill. A strong voice is important, but what connects with the listener is authenticity.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A good condenser mic, audio interface, laptop with Logic, piano keyboard, and quality headphones. With those five, I could keep creating anywhere.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started violin at Barratt Due Institute of Music, then studied Music, Dance and Drama at Manglerud VGS. I trained with vocal coaches, completed songwriting and production courses, and since 2019 I’ve performed with the ensemble Tryllefløytene. I also had a solo concert with Oslo Politiorkester, where they arranged and performed one of my original songs. Music has been central to my life since childhood.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Melodic, emotional, and versatile. I combine the clarity of classical training with the expression and edge of pop.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Andrew Lloyd Webber – his works inspired me to sing in the first place. I would also love to collaborate with Scandinavian producers who create cinematic pop, because that’s where I feel my voice and writing thrive.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Build around the vocal. A strong song needs space for the vocal to breathe. Don’t crowd the arrangement – let melody and voice carry the emotion.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I move between pop, musical theatre, classical crossover, and children’s music. My background allows me to adapt quickly and deliver what the project needs.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Melody and vocal delivery. I’ve been creating melodies since childhood, and I have a strong ear for harmonies and arrangements that enhance the lead vocal.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Authenticity, storytelling, and a clear soprano voice that can shift from powerful and theatrical to soft and intimate. What's your s
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the story and emotion behind the project. If I’m writing, I sketch melody ideas first, then lyrics and harmonies. If I’m recording, I deliver multiple takes, harmonies, and ad-libs so the producer has a rich palette to work with.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from a home studio equipped with a condenser microphone, vocal booth setup, audio interface, and Logic Pro for recording and arranging. For writing and arranging I also use piano as my main instrument
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Andrew Lloyd Webber has shaped much of my vocal journey, but I also draw inspiration from artists like Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, and contemporary Scandinavian pop writers who master melody and emotion.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I provide professional vocals and topline writing. That includes lead vocals, harmonies, and custom-written melodies – whether for pop tracks, musical theatre, or more intimate projects such as weddings and memorials.
