Interview with Nadiia Solzi
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by discussing your vision in detail — genre, mood, references, and emotional direction. Once we align, I create a draft (lyrics or vocal), send it for your feedback, and refine until it’s perfect. Communication is key, so you’re always part of the creative flow.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My home studio is equipped with a treated vocal booth for isolation, a AT2035 microphone, Focusrite Scarlett Solo audio interface, Ableton Live DAW on a MacBook Air. It’s optimized for remote sessions with low-latency monitoring.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by versatile vocalists like Freddie Mercury for his dynamic range and emotional delivery, Adele for her raw power and storytelling, people like Amy Whinehouse, Lana Del Rey, Celine Dion, Tina Turner, Toni Braxton, Duffy, Dido, Christina Aguilera, Postmodern Jukebox etc.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in professional voice-over recordings for commercials, audiobooks, podcasts, and e-learning content, alongside vocal sessions for music tracks including lead vocals, harmonies, and background singing in genres like pop, rock, electronic, indie, acoustic, jazz and latin.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Water, knife, radio, sleeping bag, matches
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been singing since childhood and grew up surrounded by multiple languages and cultures, which shaped my adaptability and creativity. While I studied cardiovascular science, music has always been my passion. Now, I’m building a professional path in songwriting, session singing, and voice-over, combining lifelong skills with a fresh, modern approach.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Emotive, cinematic, and versatile — a blend of European sensitivity with modern pop clarity. I aim to create vocals and lyrics that not only sound beautiful but also make listeners feel something real.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with Sia. She transmits authenticity and raw emotion. She’s a big inspiration for me.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always record vocals with intention — even in a demo phase, sing as if it’s the final take. Emotion can’t be “fixed in the mix,” and a heartfelt performance often outshines technical perfection.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I tend to work on pop, indie, soft rock, acoustic, jazz and Latin tracks — songs that thrive on atmosphere, mood, and emotional impact.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is delivering versatile, emotive vocals that capture the essence of a project, whether it’s a compelling voice-over narration with perfect timing and tone or layered singing that adds depth and professionalism to any track.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring emotional depth, storytelling, and versatility. My multicultural background and theatre experience give me the ability to adapt tone, accent, and expression — from delicate and dreamy to powerful and bold — always serving the song’s message.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet — I’m new here and still exploring the community, but I’m excited to build connections and collaborate with other talented people on the platform.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital — for the flexibility, speed, and consistency it offers. In a home-studio environment, digital makes high-quality collaboration possible anywhere in the world.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to treat your song with the same care I’d give my own. Clear communication, professional-quality results, and a genuine commitment to making sure you’re happy with the final track.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Turning someone’s idea into a finished piece of music is magical. I love watching a rough idea transform into something emotional, professional, and ready to reach listeners.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “Can you do harmonies or multiple takes?” My answer: Absolutely — I can provide main vocals, harmonies, doubles, and different emotional takes to give you options when mixing.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That singing or writing lyrics is just about having a nice voice or rhyming words. In reality, it’s about capturing an emotion, delivering a performance that connects, and making sure every word and note serves the song’s purpose.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask: What mood or story are you trying to tell? Do you have reference tracks that capture the vibe you want? Are there any key words, phrases, or emotions you want in the lyrics or performance? What’s your deadline and desired format?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who truly listens to your vision and is willing to adapt. A good singer or songwriter doesn’t just deliver a track — they collaborate with you to make sure it sounds and feels the way you imagined. Don’t be afraid to ask for examples or revisions; your song deserves that care.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of was a theatre production in Jerusalem, where I played a character with speaking lines and live singing. It was my first time combining acting with singing on stage, and I discovered I’m particularly good at delivering sarcasm and layered emotions in character. Getting to sing as that character — not just as myself — was an incredible experience that opened up a whole new side of performance for me, and I absolutely loved it
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently working on building a versatile portfolio — recording covers, writing original toplines, and collaborating with producers in different genres to showcase the range of moods and styles I can deliver.
