Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Caskets ‘lost souls’ we made it in a garden shed and they went on to have 2 million monthly spotify listeners.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Mixing numerous records
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. A balance between the two is the best and most efficient way in my opinion.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Honesty and it aint finished until you’re happy.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Going to shows and seeing the crowds react to tracks I’ve made.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: It really varies from Job to job.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That its an exact science. Every job is different.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: 1. Are they self funded ? 2. Can they provide midi snd guitar Di’s 3. How involved would they like to be ?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Ask for transparency and be clear on what youre looking for. Prepare the files well :)
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Mac / protools / my audeze LCDX’s / a midi keyboard and my bock 251
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I founded SikTh and signed a record deal in 2002 we’ve toured all over the world / with Slipknot/Machine Head/Slayer and so many more. From there I became a producer.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Hi-fi / lots of lo-end. Vocal focused.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Dayseeker. Its just the perfect combo of a lot of my favourite stuff.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Do not cut corners and always trust your gut.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Ita completely varied. Metal, rock but ive had success in americana and i do a lot or programming / weird alt pop (listen to Cody Frost, Zand, North Atlas)
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Commitment and focus
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I care deeply about everything I do in music. I wantvthe artist to be 100% satisfied.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When it comes to remote mixing it is as follows. 1. We connect / zoom chat / discuss project 2. Discuss references (usually a spotify playlist) 3. I provide an upload link for files 4. I send first mix 5. We then either do a series of revisions or the artist can receive a live link to the mix and we can communicate live
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I run protools ultimate with more plugins than anyone I’ve ever met. I also fuse with various outboard elements / Tube-tech CL1B / Chandler 124 / Alan smart c2
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I have always been a huge spike stent fan. I love Serbans mixes, Zakk Cervini. Having come from being in Sikth i worked with Colin Richardson who was always a hero of mine.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I tend to co-write / produce / mix in equal measure. However - i will be using soundbetter purely as a remote mixing platform.
