Interview with Chiara Todeschi

  1. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  2. A: I look up to various professionals in the music industry; people who surround me and inspire me in my everyday life as well as international stars and their creative teams- especially those who starve for authenticity and bring something personal to their music.

  3. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  4. A: I usually produce/write&produce music for my clients. As this is also my biggest passion, I feel very lucky to have the chance to create something unique for them.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: I love talking to the client in the first place, figure out what could best serve their needs and find a strategy to accomplish this. I usually approach other's projects with the same (or even more) sense of responsibility I would have towards my own stuff, and that's because I am also an artist who wants to share their musical vision. That means I know the struggles, the process and paths you have to walk down in order to get to the final result, and that's why I tend to provide my clients with different options, when it comes to key elements like budget, timing, expected final result, and so on. Relying on the mutual decision we take, I will suggest whether or not to include other professionals; for example: a drummer, a mixing or mastering engineer, and so on. In any case, everything is shared between me and the person who is trusting me with their project, so as to find the best possible fit for their needs.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: My macbook pro, a microphone, guitar, audio interface and a midi keyboard... et voilà! That's how I started and more than enough to write and produce music... + sometimes, less is more!! xD

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: I love all genres of music, but I have a special interest in Pop, Pop-rock, Electronica, Indie, Folk, RnB as well as Soundtrack, Orchestral, Jazz, Vocal music. I have had the chance to work with different Pop Labels/distributors over the past years, as well as with companies that curate big events or theme parks + various theatrical foundations when it comes to Musical Theatre shows. These experiences gave me the opportunity to mature a broad vision over different styles in arrangement, composition and production, so I would really describe myself as some kind of "crossover" artist.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: Giving each project an overall vision.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: I bring enthusiasm, insight, technique and skill when it comes to song analysis/writing and production. That is a passion and peculiar attention I have had since a very young age, and which I've been refining one job after another. I am also well versed in finding the right tone of voice and writing style for each unique project, and having control over the whole process is something that deeply fascinates me. I have quite an experience in dissecting the elements of a song or instrumental piece, because I have done a lot of re-arrangement work in the past few years. I am also able to work "in tandem" with other composers/songwriters/producers, as I have also been doing a lot of assistantship to composers over the years. I am keen on envisaging a way to shape the piece I have to write, and I usually like to think about the final form it could take, right from the very beginning of the process.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I like working with my own stuff. I have a beautiful home studio I've been building for the past 10 years. That is my usual working environment, where I do all my writing, tracking and production work - sometimes, I even finalize tracks (in the box mix+mastering). I have a professional UAD audio interface and setup there, as well as all my beloved instruments (Piano, Bass, Guitars, Synths, Percs), which I have bought all over these years, thanks to my job earnings. All I need is already there. I usually play and record my instruments on all productions. Then, if a project calls for it, we usually discuss whether or not to include external session musicians - be it a drummer, a specific guitarist or other instrumentalist - or maybe a mix/mastering engineer. If you work with me, we'll discuss this straight away in order to choose the perfect path for your music to happen.
