Charly Valerio on SoundBetter

I write, arrange, and produce music that brings an artist’s vision to life.

I am a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have over 20 years of experience performing live and in the studio. I play piano, guitar, ukulele, bass and I am skilled at arranging and producing full tracks.

I specialize in helping artists develop songs from initial ideas into finished productions. I work across rock, pop, indie, and instrumental genres. My production skills include recording, arranging, and programming elements such as drums, strings, synths, and samples. I work primarily in Ableton Live and Protools.

I studied Music Composition and have formal training in music theory, arranging, and performance. I have performed and collaborated with various artists in live shows and studio sessions, bringing musical ideas to life with attention to detail and musicality. I am passionate about creating music that reflects the artist’s vision and connecting with listeners.

I can’t think of anyone better than Charly Valerio to bring out the best in any kind of song. I’ve already made three albums with him, and I believe he understands me even more than I understand myself. It’s always a pleasure to work with him.

I've been working with Charly Valerio with my producer for more than 10 years
We have made four ! and a few singles
Charly has a virtue that is difficult to find
The technical capacity to solve any inconvenience
And a loving patience to wait for the artist's times
I can't imagine someone better to take care of my songs

Charly “the giant” Valerio is not only a great producer but also an awesome guy to work with. He’s a talented multi-instrumentalist with a killer ear, and he really knows how to make songs shine. He produced, mixed and mastered my tracks and they came out sounding amazing. Super chill vibe, easy communication, and always willing to go the extra mile. Can’t recommend him enough!

Interview with Charly Valerio

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: There are several, but to name just two, I can mention "Los Mutantes del Paraná," an instrumental musical group where I composed, arranged, produced, mixed, and mastered. Live, I played classical guitar and keyboards. The other project is the music for the program Vuelta y Media, where I collaborated on composition, production, recording, mixing, and mastering.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: "I’m currently working with clients through Fiverr, finishing two singer-songwriter albums in my country, and creating the music for one of the most popular radio shows here, 'Vuelta y Media'. I also produce and arrange songs for artists worldwide, from Latin America to the US and Europe, handling everything from demos to full productions and vocal arrangements. I love collaborating internationally and bringing diverse influences into the music."

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: SoundBetter is full of amazing talent. I don’t usually recommend specific names because every project is different, but if a client needs something extra I’ll make sure they’re in good hands.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. It lets me push boundaries, move fast, and keep everything flexible. At the end of the day, what matters is the vibe and the song — and digital gives me all the tools to make that happen.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise is to treat every project with the same care and attention as if it were my own music. I’ll make sure your song sounds professional, release-ready, and true to your artistic vision.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love the transformation — taking a simple demo, even just a voice note, and turning it into something that sounds huge and exciting. That process never stops feeling magical.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Q: Do I need to have everything figured out before working with you? A: Not at all. Even a simple voice note can be the start. Part of my job is to guide the process and help you discover the best version of your song. Q: How much do you change the original idea? A: I respect the core of the song — the vibe, the melody, the lyrics — and build around that. Think of me as someone who helps the song dress up for the big stage, without changing its personality. Q: Can you make my demo sound like a full production? A: Absolutely — that’s my specialty. I take your rough idea and build the arrangement, instrumentation, and mix so it feels like a finished, release-ready track.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception is that music production is all about fancy gear. Gear helps, but the real difference is understanding the artist and making their song hit the listener emotionally.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What kind of sound/style are you looking for? Do you have a reference track?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I would tell him to take it easy, since someone like me is looking for long-term working relationships in order to create beautiful human relationships.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: An acoustic guitar, pencil and paper, a melodica and not much else.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I'm a professional musician with over 20 years of experience in music production, teaching, and performance. I hold degrees in both piano and guitar from CAEMSA, an institution that is part of the Berklee International Network. My training also includes classical and popular harmony, orchestration, string and wind arranging, voice, and French horn, studied with some of Argentina’s most respected music educators. As a music producer, I've worked on original compositions and arrangements for clients including Netflix, Movistar, stella artois, ford, etc. I’m comfortable working across genres and tailoring music to narrative, brand, or emotional intent. My work is guided by deep listening, strong analytical skills, and a clear sense of musical form and aesthetics.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I love combining styles. Classic and modern blend seamlessly.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: On the one hand, I'd love to work with singers from around the world to help them bring their compositions to life. On the other hand, I enjoy the process of putting music to audiovisual works.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: The first one I was given: less is more. Economy of resources!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop, indie, rock, latin styles, rock, 8 bits.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Production from scratch

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I can be involved in the songwriting process from the very beginning. Whether it's composing music for lyrics or even adding lyrics to an idea, or producing from scratch or polishing an already started production. I can also join in as a session player on both guitar and piano. Or I can also join in as an arranger. I can also do the final mixing and mastering.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Example of a production from scratch. - They send me the demo. - Analysis and feedback. - We share references for where to aim. My work begins. - Once the track is finished, I send it for you to record your vocals. - Once I have the vocals, I proceed to edit, mix, and master the final track.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a professional studio with a sound booth and a control room. I have electric, acoustic, and classical guitars. I have a Nord Stage 2. There are melodicas and ukuleles. Roland Jazz Chorus and Fender amps. I primarily use Ableton Live 11 with a Focusrite 18i20 interface. I have several condenser and dynamic microphones from brands like Shure, Electro Voice, and AKG. I have Yamaha monitors and Sub Lows. I have a wide variety of plugins and virtual instruments such as Omnisphere or the Arturia keyboard package.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Musicians: The Beatles, Charly Garcia, The Police, Bruce Springsteen. Producers: George Martin, Charly Garcia, Nigel Godrich, Gustavo Santaolalla.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I produce songs from scratch I compose music for lyrics I make music for series and commercials I record guitars and/or pianos as a session musician
