Interview with Martin D'La Fuente

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: A 30-minute medley in the church with only 3 instruments (drums, bass & piano), I had like 3 keyboards playing piano, brass, effects, I was like 17 years old, we performed this medley 3 times in a week, it was a blast. It taught me how to manage multiple layers, be creative under pressure, and make a small ensemble sound full and dynamic.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: My songs (80's, The Easter Song, Cherry Blossoms)

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: No, I'm new here (8/13/25)

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Full in the box. Analog is expensive lol I can't travel with analog either, but it's not about the tools is about how you use them.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to bring your vision to life, delivering professional, emotional, and polished results.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: That I enjoy it, and when you love what you do it's not a job it's a pleasure

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Not as many as this form, lol—just kidding! 1. Can you make my vocals shine? → Absolutely! 2. How long will it take? → As long as needed to make it perfect. 3. Can you match a reference track? → Yes, while keeping your unique vibe.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: AI can do the same as I can… but it’s great only if you want to sound flat.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: 1. What message do you want to convey with your song? 2. At the end of the project, how would you like it to sound? 3. Which parts or instruments do you want to highlight?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Look for someone who understands your vision and shares the emotion of your music.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: 1. MAC 2. Apollo Solo 3. Arturia Keylab 61 4. Beyerdynamics DT 700 Pro X 5. WA-67

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started composing songs when I was 7, then began piano at 12, drums at 16, and later guitar and singing. While in church, I spent many years handling audio setup and live mixing, starting at 17. At 22, I started creating patches and doing sound design in Logic Pro. Now, at 30, I have over 4 years of focused study and hands-on experience in mixing and mastering

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Fresh, emotional, and hand-crafted.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Ed Sheeran because of his incredible ability to craft songs that are both personal and universally relatable. I admire how his melodies, lyrics, and arrangements connect deeply with listeners. He can play the guitar and I'll do the keyboards lol

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Do what you do with the BEST of your SOUL , but enjoy it as if you were in your backyard.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Music that I feel identify with, the genre is secondary. I like challenges too.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Creativity and feeling. You can have a wonderful song, but if it doesn’t transmit a genuine emotion or message, it loses its impact.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring life and emotion to every song, making sure it connects with listeners on a deep level. I focus on highlighting the artist’s unique voice and vision, crafting mixes that feel vibrant, clear, and full of energy. I’m here to support artists every step of the way, making sure their music sounds as authentic and powerful as they imagine.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: 1. Have a detailed conversation with the client to understand their vision. 2. Review the stems carefully to identify what the project needs. 3. Work on the requested tasks (mixing, mastering, recording, production, editing). 4. I TEST WHAT I DID IN MANY MEDIAS. 5. Deliver the final polished version and await client feedback.
