Interview with León

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One of my proudest projects was a rock album I recently worked on. I was involved as a producer and composer, and I had the opportunity to participate in both the songwriting and sound direction. What excited me most was how we were able to capture the raw energy and emotion of classic rock while giving it a modern twist. Combining powerful riffs, heavy guitars, and a more organic sound was a challenge.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm currently working on an opera-style song.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: really not

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both have their place in music production, and each has its advantages depending on the context. Analog has a unique warmth and character that can't be exactly replicated with digital. Analog equipment like tapes, consoles, and recorders have a special texture that many musicians and producers value. On the other hand, digital offers incredible flexibility, a precision that's hard to achieve in the analog world, and a variety of tools and effects that make experimentation easier. I tend to work with digital primarily because of its versatility and the ability to work more efficiently.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise to clients is to deliver quality, genuine music that perfectly matches their vision. I promise to listen carefully to their ideas, contribute my expertise to improve the project, and deliver results that exceed their expectations. I also strive to maintain open and constant communication throughout the process to ensure they are always involved and satisfied with the progress.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I like most about my job is the possibility of being able to express emotions through sounds and finding a challenge in this.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: One of the most common questions clients ask me is, 'How long will my project take to complete?' My answer is that it depends on the scope and complexity of the music, but I always try to be transparent and set realistic timelines so we're both on the same page.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest mistake people often make is underestimating the power of pre-production. Sometimes, the excitement of starting to create something new can lead us to skip the planning and experimentation stages. I've learned that taking the time to nail down a song's key elements—such as its arrangement, structure, and sound—before entering the recording process can save a lot of time and frustration later on. Organization and clarity in the early stages always result in a much stronger and more satisfying project.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What do you want to convey and achieve with this song?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I would recommend looking for someone who not only has technical skill but also a passion for what they do. Music is a form of communication, so it's important to work with someone who is committed to your vision and willing to collaborate to bring your ideas to life.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: An electric guitar An amplifier A MIDI keyboard An audio interface Headphones

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been doing this for about 5 years. I've worked on platforms as a freelancer and I've also participated in other artists' creations.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My musical style is versatile, fusing influences from rock, classical, blues, and experimental music to create unique compositions that evoke deep emotions. I enjoy playing with sonic textures, exploring both the soft and the aggressive, and I always strive for each piece to have its own unique identity.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: There are so many artists I'd love to work with, but one I'm truly drawn to is Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page. His ability to merge the technical with the emotional in his guitar solos is something I've always admired. It would be incredible to collaborate with someone who has that ability to create such intense and authentic musical moments. Additionally, his innovative approach to guitar and arranging has always inspired me, so working with him would be an incredible experience to learn and explore new sounds.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don't be afraid to experiment with new sounds and techniques. Sometimes the most innovative ideas emerge from the unexpected. Don't obsess over getting everything "perfect" from the start; music production is a process of trial and error. And above all, learn to listen not only to what sounds good, but also to what isn't working.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on rock music, classical music, blues, jazz, blues rock, video game music and ambient music.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I think my strongest skill is understanding the context. My job is to try to get to what each song needs most and not add more things or end up at a point where something is missing.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I think I can contribute originality, feeling and adaptation to a song.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I usually start by asking what the client wants to convey with the song. From there, I can guide myself in the direction I'm going. Then, I can improvise for a while, looking for something interesting and thus determine the tonality of the song, scales, tempo, etc. Once I have that, I begin to create the sections of the song and analyze what it needs, such as instruments and textures. After doing everything, I record everything I need and produce it.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio is a space where creativity flows freely. I have a powerful computer with software like Reaper for production, and a high-quality audio interface to ensure accurate recording. For guitar, I use an electric guitar (with different pickup configurations, depending on the style I'm going for) and a virtual amp with high-quality plugins that allow me to recreate sounds from different genres.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: The truth is that I am inspired by many musicians, ranging from many styles and different types of instrumentalists and bands. Perhaps the most inspired are: Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Paige, Nina Simone, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Beethoven, Carlos Santana, Gustavo Santaolalla, etc.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: What I do most is create songs from scratch with the feelings that the client wants.
