Interview with Medusa Georgiou
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One of my proudest projects was a song called "Velvet Static," where I co-wrote, performed, and vocal produced the entire topline. It was a powerful mix of vulnerability and energy, and ended up being featured in an indie film soundtrack – connecting deeply with a wider audience.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently collaborating on an alt-pop EP with Sinatic, blending emotional toplines with genre-bending production. I'm also writing for a few up-and-coming electronic artists.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes – I’ve had great experiences with a few producers and mix engineers here. I’m happy to recommend once I know your project’s direction.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital – for flexibility, speed, and global collaboration. But I love blending organic textures to make digital sound human and alive.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To treat your song with care, creativity, and professionalism. I’ll deliver high-quality work, tailored to your vision, and always with a personal touch.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Turning feelings into sound. There’s nothing more rewarding than creating something that connects with people on a deeper level – something they’ll replay during both highs and lows.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q: Can you make this sound like [insert famous artist]? A: I can channel that vibe, but I’ll always put my own authentic twist on it – that’s what makes the track truly original.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That toplining is just about “singing something catchy.” In reality, it’s a nuanced craft involving storytelling, vocal texture, phrasing, and emotional delivery – all aligned with the production’s energy and intention.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s the story or emotion behind the song? Are there any reference tracks or artists you want this to align with? What’s your vision for the vocal tone and delivery? Do you need help with lyrics, melody, or both?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know what you want your track to feel like, not just sound like. Be open to collaboration, and don’t be afraid to share reference tracks or emotional goals – it helps me tailor something truly personal and effective.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Neumann TLM 103 Apollo Twin Interface MacBook Pro with Logic MIDI Keyboard A solar-powered charger – because the vibes never stop.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as a poet and songwriter before transitioning into vocal performance and full-scale topline work. A pivotal moment was my Masterclass with Benny Blanco, which deepened my craft. I’ve been working professionally in music for over 6 years now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Cinematic, raw, and melodic. I fuse emotionally charged lyrics with experimental and polished toplines. It's pop at heart, but with an edge.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with Flume or Arca – both are fearless when it comes to sound design and pushing genre boundaries. Their production leaves room for expressive vocals and storytelling.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Emotion always wins over perfection. Sometimes the imperfect take – the breath, the crack in the voice – is what makes the song unforgettable. Don’t over-edit the soul out of your music.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly electronic pop, dark pop, alt-pop, and dance/electronic. I love hybrid sounds and genre crossovers – anything with space for storytelling and emotion.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Vocal performance and topline melody creation. I have a strong sense for what makes a chorus memorable and emotionally impactful.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a unique combination of emotional authenticity, melodic instinct, and modern production sensibility. I aim to elevate a track by giving it a voice that feels both personal and commercially relevant.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I begin by understanding the emotion and intention behind a track. Then I move into melody ideation and lyric writing. Once the topline is solid, I record and comp vocals, including doubles, harmonies, and ad-libs. Communication is key throughout, and I always leave space for feedback and revision.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from a high-quality home studio equipped with a Neumann TLM 103, Apollo Twin interface, Logic Pro X, and industry-standard plugins like Waves, FabFilter, and Soundtoys. My vocal chain is clean and pro-level, and I'm set up to deliver broadcast-quality stems remotely.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm constantly inspired by artists like FKA Twigs, Rosalía, Grimes, and Sia – visionaries who blend emotional depth with bold, genre-defying aesthetics. On the production side, I admire the work of Benny Blanco, Arca, and Finneas for their innovation and attention to storytelling through sound.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in topline writing, vocal performance, and lyric creation - mainly in the genres of electronic, pop, and alternative. Whether it’s writing hooks that stick or delivering emotional, radio-ready vocals, I help producers and artists bring their vision to life with a distinct sonic identity.
