Interview with Cara Flova

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project I'm especially proud of is my personal project, Cara Flova. It's a new venture where I create most of the music, from production to mixing and mastering. This project is a reflection of all my years of experience, and I see it as the culmination of my creative journey. It’s my musical ‘child,’ where I have full creative control, allowing me to explore new sounds and push my limits. Every track is a piece of me, and I’m excited to see where this project will take me

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: At the moment, I’m working on my project, Cara Flova, as well as a variety of other projects. I’m mixing and mastering tracks for some independent artists across different genres. I’m also producing a couple of original beats for a few up-and-coming musicians.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: While I haven't worked with everyone on SoundBetter, there are many talented professionals on the platform across various areas of expertise. I always recommend looking for someone who truly aligns with your musical vision and who has a strong portfolio in your genre. If you're looking for recommendations, I’d be happy to point you in the right direction based on your needs, whether it's for a specific production style or mastering engineer.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both analog and digital have their unique advantages, and it really depends on the project. Analog gear often offers a certain warmth and character that’s hard to replicate with digital, which is why it’s often favored in certain genres or for specific elements of a mix. On the other hand, digital equipment is incredibly versatile, precise, and efficient, offering a clean and detailed sound, especially when working with complex mixes. Personally, I enjoy using both, blending the best of both worlds to achieve a polished, professional sound.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise is to bring happiness. I’m dedicated to making sure you’re fully satisfied with the final product.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I love most about my job is the creative process and the ability to help bring an artist’s vision to life. Every project is unique, and I enjoy the challenge of shaping a track to sound its best. Whether it's finding the perfect mix or adding that final touch to a song, the satisfaction of hearing the finished product come together is incredibly rewarding. I also appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with talented artists and work on a variety of genres — it keeps things fresh and exciting.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How long will it take to complete my project? Can you work with my existing mix or vocals?

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception is that mixing and mastering are quick, one-step processes that can be done in a few minutes. In reality, it takes time and attention to detail to achieve a polished, professional sound. It’s about carefully balancing all elements, from EQ and compression to reverb and panning, to ensure everything works together perfectly. Each track requires a unique approach to bring out its best qualities.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What genre or style are you aiming for? (To ensure I match the sound you're looking for.) Do you have reference tracks or artists you admire? (This helps me understand the tone and vibe you’re going for.) What is your deadline for the project? (To ensure I can manage time effectively and meet your needs.) Are there any specific elements or details that are non-negotiable for you? (Like certain effects, sounds, or specific vocal treatments.) What is your overall vision for this project? (This helps me align my work with your expectations and goals.)

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: My advice would be to be as clear as possible about your vision for the project. The more information you can provide — whether it's a reference track, specific sound preferences, or even the overall vibe you're aiming for — the better I can tailor the work to your needs. Also, trust the process. Good music takes time and collaboration. Communication is key, and I’m here to guide you through every step to ensure the final product meets your expectations.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: If I were on a desert island and could only take 5 pieces of gear, they would be: A laptop A high-quality audio interface (so I can hear my mixes properly, even in the middle of nowhere). A portable MIDI controller A pair of headphones A solar-powered charger (gotta keep everything running, even if I’m stranded!). That should keep me busy making music while waiting for rescue!"

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’ve been working in music production, mixing, and mastering for over 10 years. I started with a passion for music and gradually honed my skills in audio engineering and production. Over time, I began collaborating with independent artists from various genres, expanding my knowledge and techniques. Now, I work primarily online, delivering high-quality sound for a range of projects.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is clean, modern, and emotionally driven. I focus on clarity, punch, and dynamics — whether I’m mixing vocals, producing beats, or creating cinematic textures. I aim to serve the emotion of the song while keeping it radio-ready and true to the artist’s vision.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with artists like The Weeknd or Dua Lipa because of their blend of strong vocals, modern pop production, and cinematic elements. Their sound is polished yet emotional — and I enjoy creating that kind of atmosphere in my work.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Less is more. Don’t overcrowd your mix — focus on giving each sound its own space using EQ, panning, and automation. A clean arrangement often has more impact than one that’s overproduced.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on Pop, Trap, EDM, Hip-Hop, Reggaeton, and R&B, but I’m also experienced in cinematic and instrumental compositions for film and media. I enjoy blending modern production techniques with musicality to bring each genre to life.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is my ability to shape a clean, powerful, and emotionally impactful mix that elevates the artist’s message. I have a deep understanding of vocal processing and arrangement, which allows me to bring out the best in any performance — whether it's a rap vocal, pop topline, or cinematic theme.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring clarity, depth, and emotion to a song. Whether I’m producing, mixing, or editing vocals, my focus is always on enhancing the artist’s identity while delivering a clean, modern, and powerful sound. I have a good ear for details and dynamics, and I always aim to make the track feel alive and ready for release.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I usually start by carefully listening to the raw files and discussing the client’s vision and references. Then I clean and organize the stems, correct pitch and timing where needed, and move into mixing — focusing on balance, clarity, and emotion. Once the mix is approved, I finalize with mastering, ensuring the track translates well on all systems. I keep communication open throughout and offer revisions to make sure the client is fully satisfied.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio is acoustically treated and optimized for precision listening. I work primarily in Cubase, using high-end plugins like Waves, FabFilter, UAD, and iZotope. I monitor with Yamaha HS8s and use an audio interface from RME for top-quality conversion. I also have a MIDI keyboard for composition and sound design, and a selection of microphones for vocal recording when needed. Everything is set up to ensure a clean, accurate, and efficient workflow.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I’m inspired by producers and engineers like Max Martin, Ian Kirkpatrick, Illangelo, Timbaland, Dr. Dre — not just for their technical skills, but for how they shape the sound of modern music. I also admire mixing engineers like Serban Ghenea and Manny Marroquin for their clarity, punch, and musical balance in every track.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Most of my clients come to me for full mixing and mastering services, especially in genres like pop, trap, EDM, hip-hop, and reggaeton. I also do a lot of vocal editing and production from scratch — from building the instrumental to the final polished track. Many artists work with me online, sending raw stems for me to turn into a release-ready song with a clear, modern, and professional sound.
