Interview with Andres Alejandro Salomon

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Right now, I’m really excited about the song Right, which I co-wrote with myself and Amy. We got to record some amazing musicians on this groove that just feels so good—being part of shaping the whole song from the ground up has been such a joy.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now, I’m working on a couple of exciting EPs with some incredibly talented R&B and pop artists. It’s all about shaping their vision into songs that feel timeless and really connect with listeners.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes—Danielle Angeloni. She’s an incredible singer-songwriter with a soulful, jazzy, and alternative vibe. Working with her is always inspiring, and I’d confidently recommend her to any client looking for expressive, genre-blending vocals.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I use both analog and digital—there’s something magical about tracking through a compressor or preamp, capturing that warmth and character, then finishing and polishing everything in the box. It gives me the best of both worlds: vibe and precision.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise to my clients is that we’ll see every idea and goal through to the finish—and have fun doing it. Music is hard work, but it should always be fun, and I make sure the process reflects that

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I love most about my job is creating something that didn’t exist before—it’s like meeting a new friend every time, discovering its personality, and helping it find its place in the world.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Q: “Can you make my idea sound professional?” A: Absolutely. My job is to bring your ideas to life—guiding them from concept to a fully polished track—while making sure your vision is always heard and respected. You’ll always have the final say, and I aim to create a space where you feel safe to share exactly what you want to say.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That producing is just technical—it’s really about shaping a song emotionally and creatively from start to finish.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I ask where they see themselves in five years and which artists or sounds inspire them. That way, we can reverse-engineer the process to make sure the songs we create align with their big goals and help them get there.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Find someone who listens as much as they produce—someone who cares about your vision and story, and can translate that into sound. Your song is the pilot, and I’m there as the best co-pilot I can be, making sure your vision comes to life and serving the song every step of the way.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: I’d take my laptop, an SM7B microphone, a Strat-style guitar, a nylon guitar, and a good preamp—just enough to capture ideas, play, and produce music anywhere

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started as a guitarist and songwriter, then moved into production in 2018, first working online and assisting other producers. In 2022, I launched my own projects, and since then, I’ve had the joy and privilege of producing songs with artists across the U.S.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I’d describe my style as a blend of John Mayer’s songwriting, Daft Punk’s groove, Bruno Mars’ rhythm and soulfulness, and Michael Jackson’s sonic quality—a mix of emotion, feel, and polished production.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with John Mayer or Sting because I’m fascinated by how they approach songwriting—their process, decision-making, and how they craft melodies and structure a song so effortlessly while keeping it emotionally compelling.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: One music production tip I love is to double-track everything—from guitars to vocals. It’s a simple way to add dynamic thickness and substance to an instrument or performance, giving the track more depth and presence.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop, R&B, alternative, and Latin—sometimes blending them to create a sound that’s fresh but still classic.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skills are my songwriting and musicianship. I feel like I can always find a way over any musical stumbling block, whether it’s a tricky arrangement, melody, or production challenge

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring musicality, clarity, and attention to every detail—that’s what really lasts in a song

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I start by listening to the artist’s vision, then build the song step by step—demoing, co-writing, arranging, producing, and finally mixing and mastering. It’s about keeping the soul of the song intact while giving it a sound that lasts.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work from my San Diego studio, set up for everything from intimate acoustic sessions to full-scale production. It’s got all the tools I need to capture instruments, vocals, synths, and everything in between, and then shape them into polished tracks. Some of my favorite gear includes my Soyuz 017 microphone, my amp preamp, my Cordoba nylon guitar, and my PRS Silver Sky guitar—each one helping me bring the sound and emotion of a song to life.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Artists like John Mayer, Bruno Mars, Alejandro Sanz, Sting and Tom Misch—they’re masters at blending emotion, melody, and technical skill in a way that feels timeless.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I take a song from a spark of an idea with an artist and help it grow into a fully realized track—mixed, mastered, and ready to share with the world. That can mean co-writing, arranging, producing, and adding all the little details that make it feel alive.
