Joe mixed the vocal for my very first EP, and I doubt that without his guidance and expertise the final product would sound anywhere near and good as it ended up sounding. Not only was he incredibly professional but also easy to talk to and was always willing to give me advice on how to get the best quality out of our collaboration. We'll continue working in the future!
Joe Rodriguez produced, tracked, and mixed my two latest releases. Prior to working with Joe, I always felt like something was missing with my music. His industry-expertise truly brought my music and sound to the next level. He is knowledgeable, professional, and ensures that you get exactly what you want out of your work. I look forward to working with him again soon on my upcoming EP.
Interview with Joe Rodriguez
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I have a handful... My personal music career as an artist, my radio-style show that I run, running FOH sound at my local church, and being on the Wrestlemania event production team... Because all of these projects were/have been extremely fun and gratifying.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Any serious/interesting project that comes across my table.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: At the moment, not that I know of.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Hybrid... It's the best of both worlds.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I'll do everything in my power to make sure they love the results I deliver, as much as I love the results.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That I contribute to projects that people really connect to.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Completely depends on the customer and project at hand. I suppose mostly clients ask for a small tweak here or there, and I gladly oblige.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it can be done well by somebody who hasn't trained as hard as the professionals train.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Completely depends on the project... But questions always revolve around gaining a sense of who and what I'll be working with.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Give me the best you have... Performance, audio quality, effort, etc. What you put in is what you get out, as they say.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Neumann U 87 Ai | UA SOLO/610 | TASCAM UH-7000 | MacBook Pro with Pro Tools, Logic, plugins, etc. | NI Komplete Kontrol s88
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Started writing music around 1996... Started recording music in 2004... Went to school in 2010... Graduated 3rd in my class for Recording Arts in 2012... After graduation interned at a studio in the Miami area... Then began my career as a pro freelancing as a studio and live engineer for a variety of clients... Still doing that as well as making music, hosting, and creating content of my own.
Q: How would you describe your style?
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Any artist/creator with true talent and a developed sound/style... Because those are important ingredients when creating.

Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Attention to detail, TLC, and ideas. Experience as an artist, which helps me relate to artists/musicians.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by gaining a feel for the project at hand, then I chip away at it piece-by-piece. I keep my client updated throughout the process. The job isn't done until my client is satisfied!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have my home setup which gets the job done in most cases... Some of my gear is listed on my profile. I have more gear and plugins available within my setup. Aside from that I have heavy access to a few different studio spaces when the need arises!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by all kinds of creativity, really.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work I do is general recording, editing, and mixing. This includes such things as recording vocals, recording acoustic instruments... Editing vocal and instrument tracks... Vocal tuning, vocal pocketing... Levels, panning, expansion, EQ, compression, deessing, FX, etc. For music and podcasts!
