With over 30 years in the industry and 15+ years running a fully analog-equipped studio in Los Angeles, Colin Liebich brings deep musicality and technical precision to every project. From tracking to final mix, you’ll be working in a space outfitted for sonic excellence — including a Neve 5088 console, BAE preamps, 48in/58out Burl conversion, four Bricasti M7s, an original Fairchild, 1176, Moog delays, AMS RMX-16, CL1-B, Globetrotter Monster, a Pair of Neve 2254 compressors, API EQs, Ocean Way mains, Amphion nearfields with sub, and the classic NS10s.
Colin’s credits include working alongside Seal to recreate the iconic "Kiss from a Rose" in 2023. With a background in big band and classical, and a mix portfolio spanning pop, rock, jazz, electronic, and orchestral music, Colin combines old-school analog depth with a modern ear — giving your track both warmth and clarity, no matter the genre.

Interview with Plastic Dog Recording
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Working with Seal on his remake of "Kiss from a Rose (Seal's Version). We had to completely re-record every track. It took 3 weeks to do over 70 vocal tracks. We worked with my studio team to remake everything, and it was a great experience trying to make the best possible version we could. We got the original producer's approval and it turned out to be a fantastic remake.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog, it just sounds better. There's no argument here. Digital has it's place and purpose, but the stereo field and sound from analog is unmatched.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it's easy, and that I can perform impossible miracles. We can do our best to make great music, but at the end of the day, we can only work on and polish what goes in from the beginning. This is why we do recordings here as well, as needed.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are you hoping to acheive in the studio?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make all your music sound the best it can be
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Amazingly Analog, and Modern
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Make the best recording possible. You can't fix it in post. You can only enhance.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Soundtrack/Cinematic, Big Band Jazz, Rock, and Electronic music. It's pretty broad spectrum out here in Los Angeles.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: We bring the best gear, and no compromise. We want to make the best track possible, every time.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It depends on the projects. For typical projects, my assistant will receive and injest the project and set up the tracks for a mixing session. Then we'll typically mix using both Protools, and our Neve Console. No matter what, we'll mix with the Console. We then send out to a plethora of outboard gear, and then return back with the Burl Converters. If needed or requested, we can track to a Studer 24 track tape machine.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: It's a premier studio with a hybrid setup from ProTools into an all analog system. From a 24 Track Studer tape machine, to a Neve Desk, to a modern daw setup with Burl Conversion. There's more vintage in here than the Rose Bowl swap meet, but we still meet the standards of contemporary studios.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Allen Sides, Trevor Horn, James Newton Howard, Jimmy Page, Bob Ezrin, George Martin, Post Malone, Jack White, Flying Lotus, Bainz
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Tracking, and Mixing
