Interview with MARK THA HOUSE
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I use both analog and digital gear in my studio because each brings unique strengths. Analog equipment adds warmth, character, and a natural feel to the sound, which is great for vocals and certain instruments. Digital tools offer precision, flexibility, and powerful processing that speed up workflow and make mixing easier. Combining both allows me to get the best of both worlds and deliver polished, dynamic tracks.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to my clients is to deliver high-quality, polished tracks that truly represent their vision. I’m dedicated, detail-oriented, and always open to feedback to make sure the final product exceeds expectations. With me, you get professionalism, creativity, and a partner committed to your musical success.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most about my job is making music. Turning ideas into sounds that move people and create emotions is incredibly rewarding. Every track is a new chance to express creativity and connect with listeners around the world.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long will the project take? I usually deliver within 2 to 5 business days depending on the service and project complexity. How many revisions do you offer? I include up to 2 free revisions to make sure you’re happy with the final result. What file formats do you deliver? Final files typically include 24-bit WAV and 320kbps MP3, with stems or other formats available on request. Can you work with my style or genre? Yes! I specialize in House and EDM, but I’m flexible and open to working across genres. Do I need to send you fully mixed tracks or can you help with production too? I can help at any stage — from full production to mixing and mastering.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that music production and mixing are easy or quick tasks. In reality, it takes a lot of skill, attention to detail, and time to craft a professional, polished track that sounds great on all systems.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s the overall vibe or mood you want for this track? Do you have any reference tracks or artists you want your music to sound like? What’s your deadline for the project? Are there any specific elements or sounds you want emphasized or avoided? Will you provide stems, or do you need production from scratch? How involved do you want to be during the process (e.g., feedback rounds)? What format(s) do you need the final files in? Are there any technical requirements for the mix/master (e.g., streaming, radio)? What’s your budget or preferred price range? Do you have any questions or special requests before we start?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: When hiring a music producer or engineer, look for someone who truly understands your vision and communicates clearly throughout the process. It’s important to choose a provider who is not only skilled technically but also flexible and open to feedback. Check their portfolio and reviews to ensure their style matches what you’re looking for. And remember, good collaboration is key to making a track that you’re proud of.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop with DAW software (Ableton Live) — for producing and mixing anywhere Audio interface — essential for high-quality sound input/output A reliable MIDI controller — to create melodies and beats on the go Studio headphones — for accurate monitoring in any environment Portable external hard drive — to store all my projects and samples safely
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been passionate about music production for over 20 years, steadily honing my skills in EDM and house genres. Starting from a home studio setup, I dedicated myself to mastering mixing, mastering, and beat-making, drawing inspiration from top artists while developing my own unique sound. Over time, I’ve worked with various artists and projects, building a reputation for delivering polished, energetic tracks that resonate on the dancefloor. Today, as Mark Tha House, I continue evolving my craft and collaborating with musicians worldwide.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style blends deep, groovy house vibes with energetic EDM elements, creating tracks that are both dancefloor-ready and emotionally engaging. I focus on clean production, melodic hooks, and rhythms that keep the energy flowing from start to finish.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with David Guetta because he’s a true pioneer in bringing EDM to mainstream audiences worldwide. His ability to blend catchy melodies with powerful production inspires me, and collaborating with him would be an incredible opportunity to learn and create music that moves millions.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don’t overcomplicate your tracks by adding too many stems. Keep your arrangement clear and focused—sometimes less is more. This helps maintain clarity and makes mixing much easier.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on House and EDM tracks, specializing in crafting energetic, dancefloor-ready productions. Additionally, I offer mastering services to ensure every track sounds polished and competitive across all platforms.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my perfectionism and attention to detail. I’m committed to delivering the highest-quality sound by meticulously refining every element of a track—whether it’s the mix balance, vocal tuning, or final master. This dedication ensures that each project I work on sounds polished, professional, and ready to stand out.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a fresh, professional touch that elevates every song I work on. From deep, rhythmic beats to polished vocal tuning and crystal-clear mixes, I focus on creating a sound that’s both emotionally impactful and club-ready. My goal is to highlight the artist’s unique style while delivering a track that stands out sonically and connects with listeners.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I begin each project by discussing the artist’s vision and goals to ensure alignment. Then, I review any provided stems or recordings and assess what’s needed to enhance the track. For production, I create beats, melodies, and arrangements that fit the style and mood desired. During mixing, I carefully balance all elements, apply processing like EQ, compression, and effects, and fine-tune vocals for clarity and impact. I deliver an initial version for feedback, allowing up to two revisions based on the client’s input. Finally, I master the track to ensure it sounds polished and consistent across all playback systems. Communication throughout the process is key to achieving the best result.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from a home studio equipped with a powerful sound system featuring 2 subwoofers, 6 reinforcement speakers, and 2 mixing monitors. The setup includes a high-quality audio processor and a digital mixing console, ensuring precise sound control and accurate mixing across all frequencies. This allows me to deliver clear, balanced, and professional-quality tracks tailored to each project.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by a diverse range of producers across genres. David Guetta’s ability to create huge dance anthems with mass appeal motivates me to craft energetic, crowd-pleasing tracks. Dr. Dre’s legendary skills in hip-hop production inspire my attention to detail and sound design, especially when working with beats and bass. Calvin Harris, especially in his early and mid-career, influences my approach to blending catchy melodies with polished, radio-ready production. These artists push boundaries and keep evolving, which drives me to keep improving my own sound.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in producing, mixing, and mastering high-quality EDM and house tracks that bring energy and emotion to the dance floor. My work often involves crafting deep, melodic beats, fine-tuning vocals with precise tuning and effects, and creating polished, radio-ready masters. I collaborate closely with artists to ensure their vision shines through in every track, delivering clear, vibrant soundscapes that stand out in today’s competitive electronic music scene.
