Fender- and Aguilar-endorsed bassist with credits including Lauren Daigle, CeCe Winans, and Allen Stone. Premium Nashville-based session player delivering deep-pocket, soulful bass for worship, gospel, and R&B-inspired tracks.
Hey, I’m Kevin — a session bassist based in Nashville, specializing in worship, gospel, and R&B. I’ve toured arenas with Lauren Daigle, recorded with CeCe Winans and Allen Stone in the gospel and R&B spaces. Whether I’m tracking a worship anthem or a pocket-driven gospel tune, I’m here to bring tone, taste, and feel that serve the heart of the song.
I think the best part of music creation comes from really connecting — not just with the music, but with the people making it. I love getting to know artists and producers, because that’s where the right choices happen: the tone that fits your voice, the groove that tells your story.
I track electric, upright, and synth bass (Moog Sub 37). My setup is dialed — Fender- and Aguilar-endorsed, Noble DI, and a signal chain that’s clean, warm, and mix-ready. I work out of my own space here in Nashville and can track remotely for clients around the world — or in person if you're local.
Let’s make something meaningful together. Looking forward to hearing your vision.

Just hire him.
Kevin is the man! He's played on multiple records of mine (Rooftop, Christmas in Chicago, Dagger) and he always bring's great feel to what the song needs. With his musical background, he can play anything and has lots of insight beyond bass playing. Tones are on point, and his pocket is money. If you need a bassist for something, I'm very confident recommending Kevin!
I’ve had Kevin play bass for me on multiple gigs and recordings. He is lighthearted, shows up on time and is always prepared. Not to mention he can PLAYY🎸 He’s easy to work with and doesn’t just play all the right notes, but prioritizes serving both the song and the artist he’s playing for!
Kevin Gift is truly that - a gift. He is a very knowledgable, skilled, and hardworking musician with extensive knowledge in several instruments and music theory, and a plethora of experience in performing. He has both elevated my vocal prowess into a new realm of possibility, and has also tracked excellent bass work on an upcoming album of mine. On top of all of this, he happens to be a very genuine and personable soul with creativity and heart. TLDR: you must hire Kevin Gift Jr.
Interview with Kevin Gift Jr.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: During the height of the pandemic in 2020, I recorded (safely) a live television special with Lauren Daigle. It was an honor to contribute to a project that brought hope and encouragement to people during such an uncertain and difficult season. My role was to anchor the rhythm section on bass, helping to bring stability and emotional weight to the live arrangements.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm music directing and playing bass for an artist named Jamie MacDonald. Her debut single, Desperate, was #1 on the Christian charts for seven weeks. We most recently toured opening for Chris Tomlin.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes — drummer/producer Chris Leidhecker. Great feel, great ears, great human.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital for flexibility and workflow. But I use analog-style gear to keep the warmth and character in every track.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You’ll get great tone, deep pocket, and a collaborator who listens — both musically and personally. I’ll always serve the song, not my ego.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The privilege of helping people’s songs come to life — and making something that feels bigger than the sum of its parts.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q: Can you give me multiple takes or options? A: Absolutely — I often provide 2–3 takes with slight variations in feel or phrasing so you can pick what fits best.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That bass is just about “holding it down.” Great bass playing shapes the feel and emotion of a track just as much as the vocal or drums.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s the vision behind the song? Who are some reference artists or tracks? How finished is the arrangement? Do you want something safe or more creative?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone with a proven track record across different artists and genres. Experience brings not just great playing, but intuition — knowing what not to play, when to leave space, and how to elevate the song without overcomplicating it.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Fender 60's Jazz Bass, Nashguitars P Bass, Noble DI, Moog Sub 37, MacBook Pro with Logic.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been a full-time professional musician for 17 years. I grew up in Philadelphia and was hugely influenced by its deep culture of Soul, R&B, Gospel, and Hip-Hop. I moved to Nashville in 2012 where my career took off. My journey includes touring with artists like Lauren Daigle and CeCe Winans, playing sessions across genres, and building a reputation for consistency, musicality, and heart.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Supportive, expressive, and groove-driven. I serve the vocal and help the song breathe — with a tone-forward, pocket-deep approach.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Jon Bellion — I admire his melodic creativity, sonic world-building, and ability to fuse modern production with real musicianship. Would love to lock in with that kind of vision.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don’t overplay early in the writing or demo phase. Space lets the emotion breathe — you can always add layers, but you can’t fix overplaying once it’s printed.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Contemporary Christian music, gospel, modern worship, and R&B — with some crossover into pop, soul, and folk.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Versatility. My work experience has ranged all the way from Jazz/Funk/R&B fusion to Traditional Bluegrass and everything in between— and I know how to adapt my tone and approach to meet the needs of each song without losing authenticity.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Deep pocket, warm tone, and musical instincts that serve the moment. I aim to enhance the emotional impact of a song without ever distracting from it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: After receiving the track and any notes or references, I send over a first pass quickly — usually with a few subtle variations to choose from. I keep communication open and make revisions based on your vision. I want it to feel right!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record in a treated space with top-tier gear: Fender, Aguilar, and Callowhill basses, a Noble DI, and high-end analog-style compression (1176 and LA-2A). I also use a Moog Sub 37 for synth bass and track into a pro-level signal chain for clean, mix-ready stems.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Pino Palladino for his melodic instinct, Derrick Hodge for depth and feel, Adam Blackstone for musical direction and versatility, and Aaron Sterling for how he shapes songs sonically. I’m inspired by players who elevate a track without overpowering it.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Remote session bass tracks for worship, gospel, and R&B recordings — with tone, feel, and pocket that serve the song.
