Interview with CHIËF
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That all producers are button pushers. Nothing against them, but I take pride in the musicianship of my records. I like my clients to know theyre getting a quality product in comparison to what others out there have to offer, and the proof is in the pudding.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Not too many. I like to feel my clients out and give them the best product according to their needs/ wants.. Every project is different
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If it don't feel right, it aint right.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, Keyboard, Headphones, USB Mic, and my KRKs
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I began as solely being a producer, but through the years I started taking my artistry more serious, and today I can honestly say I can guarantee a dope product in any format. Whether it be production, writing, or mixing.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style has a lot of soul and bounce. My R&B/ Pop tracks have bounce and my Hip Hop tracks still have that feeling to keep you engaged
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Travis Scott, Young Thug, Beyonce, and Bryson Tiller to name a few. I know that if you put me in the room with any of these artists, instant classics would come out of it.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Spread your mixes. Take the time to pan what you need to pan. Put your low passes and high passes where they need to be. Make sure that every instrument you use sits where you'd like it to sit on the track and your music will sound clean and crispy!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: R&B/ Hip Hop/ Pop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: PRODUCTION!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring energy, musicianship, stadium sound, and love for the music! I have a knack for creating catchy yet quality tracks
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: BEATS! BEATS! BEATS! I am an artist myself and have many other talents and quality services that I can deliver on, but production is my forte..
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: As a producer I work out of multiple setups. But my own personal setup is 2 KRK 10s, MPC Studio, Midi Keyboard, and my MacBook Pro which I work out of Ableton and Logic. I am able to navigate pro tools well but I do not have it connected to my own personal setup as of yet.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Metro Boomin, 808 Mafia, Timbaland Hit- Boy, Teddy Riley, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonderr, Quincy Jones,Michael Jackson, T-Pain, I mean I could go on forever
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in Hip- Hop/ R&B production. I work under my mentor and brother, 9x Grammy winner Bryan Michael Cox since 2005. Im a healthy mix of the R&B soul of the 90s and the bounce of todays Hip Hop..
