Interview with Dj pina pina
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m producing a full EP for an Afro-trap artist, mixing several drill tracks, and working on my own sample pack and beat tape to release later this year.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet — but I’m always open to collaborating and recommending talented professionals I trust.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, for flexibility and speed — but I love adding analog flavor where needed. The best sound comes from knowing how to use both.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To respect your vision, deliver pro-level sound, communicate clearly, and treat your track like it’s my own.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Turning an idea into a finished track that gives chills — that’s priceless. I love seeing the artist’s reaction when they hear the final product and say: “That’s it.”
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They often ask: “Can you make my song sound like [insert artist]?” My answer: “Yes — but with your flavor. I’ll use those references to guide the mood, not copy it. My goal is to make something that feels like you — but hits like the pros.”
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing or beatmaking is just about pushing buttons. It’s way deeper than that. It’s about emotion, structure, intention — and helping an artist tell their story sonically.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask: - What emotion or vibe are you going for? - Any reference tracks or artists you like? - What’s the final goal for the track? (streaming, label, live?) - Do you already have vocals/stems or are we starting from scratch?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know your vibe and be honest with what you’re aiming for. Even if you don’t have the technical language, I can translate your vision into sound — but your energy and clarity will help us build magic faster.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: 1. Laptop with Fl Studio 2. UAD Apollo Twin 3. SM7B mic 4. Beyerdynamic DT770 headphones 5. A MIDI controller (Akai MPK or similar)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been producing and engineering for over 10 years. I started as a beatmaker in local studios, then trained in mixing/mastering. Over the years, I’ve worked with both rising and major artists, and my work has earned gold and platinum certifications. I’ve been producing and engineering for over 10 years. Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Cinematic, energetic, emotional. I like building beats and mixes that feel alive — with movement, texture, and punch. I mix clean, but never sterile.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Burnaboy. His ability to blend Afro with global sounds is incredible, and I love building beats that cross genres and cultures. I’d also love to work with Hamza and Central Cee for their unique flows and artistic direction.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more — always leave room for the artist to breathe. Whether it's in beatmaking or mixing, space and dynamics are key to emotional impact.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mostly work on Afro, Trap, Drill, French rap, and hybrid styles that blend urban and melodic elements. I'm comfortable with both energetic street bangers and emotional records, and I always adapt my sound to match the artist's identity.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Sound architecture. I’m a beatmaker, yes — but also a mix and mastering engineer. That means I hear the full picture and I shape the sound to hit hard, feel rich, and sound pro from start to finish.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring identity, emotion, and power. Whether I'm producing a custom beat or mixing vocals, I focus on highlighting the artist’s personality and bringing out the raw energy in their sound.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by talking with the artist to get the full vibe: references, goals, emotions. Then I build or shape the production accordingly — whether I’m making a beat or mixing vocals. I always prioritize communication and clarity to make sure the vision is respected.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from a hybrid home-studio setup, fully treated, with top-notch plugins and hardware. I use Fl studio and Pro Tools, a UAD Apollo Twin interface, Focal monitors, an Neuman TLM 104 mic, and Waves, FabFilter, Slate Digital and Waves plugins. For in-studio sessions, I work from high-end rented spaces in Paris.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Producers like Metro Boomin, Juls, Dr. Dre, and WondaGurl inspire me a lot — not just for their sound, but for how they build a sonic universe around each artist. I’m also influenced by engineers like Jaycen Joshua and Alex Tumay.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I produce custom beats, mix and master tracks, and often handle full production — from scratch to final master. My work ranges from Afro and trap to drill and French rap. Many clients come to me for my ability to deliver a powerful, professional sound that reflects their identity.
