Interview with Nicole Lucia Mazza

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I would love to do a rock/metal cover of some trending movie pop songs with my own spin, but first I'm getting used to Garageband and production with my own acoustic cover first. Need to solidify those vocals! Projects will release on my YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/@nicolemazza9749) and SoundCloud (https://on.soundcloud.com/FtjJv2btTcNlvtTIyT) once ready.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Being able to do what I love and enjoy! When my vocal experience and emotional experience work together. Bringing a new take or perspective to a groupthink. Directing a characterised angle into a video project. And everything to do with this.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: That you need to be a household name professional and have a strongly defined career to make good art. My expertise and skill comes from iterations of experimenting and keeping up at what I love to do, regardless of where it takes me. Of course, with social media and the increasing consumeristic nature of music, having a profitable brand image helps. But it's not the only thing that can help someone stand out. Now, the biggest misconception about me: That I have no experience and I'm a wannabe groupie. It's 2025, let's not shoehole women in the music industry to some jaded Warped Tour perceptions! I believe that my youth, upbringing, experiences and drive have made me who I am today, ready to give it my all in my music career. If you don't believe me then at least I can play melodies by ear on the piano with no formal training...

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: I'm open to working with anyone, let's go!! To properly answer the question, Hayley Williams, Kellin Quinn, Amy Lee, Bring Me The Horizon, BABYMETAL and Mike Shinoda are some of my biggest inspirations. I could write paragraphs on each artist but to keep it short and sweet, I think their merit and what they bring to the game is brilliant, and I'd love to learn from or even work with any of them as I feel they complement my sound and image. We'd also have a great time as I'd be so pumped to get going!

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Like acting, go with the flow and never block a prompt! That brings so much productive craziness to the final sound when working out anything from lyrics and melody to instrumentals.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: I like to add twists to defined genres, but I enjoy rock, top hits and indie/electronic most to work on, since they each convey different attitudes for what they address. I have a lot of pop, pop-rock, metal songs lined up to cover, and the immediate thoughts I have to set off that chain reaction of innovation are: Ok, what instruments can we sprinkle in? How can we make this transcend genre? Can we change the emotion and meaning, or amp it up (through lyricism, sound, genre)? I love doing this cinematically with my videography and editing, so bringing it into music comes naturally for me in those initial stages before technicalities seep in.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: My vocals and ingenuity: Their strength is crystal clear and they have the most potential. But I'm working on defining a standout skill :)

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: Innovation and expertise, perhaps since I'm fresh and young and have been surrounded by both prestigious entrepreneurial and performing arts environments. Emotional, seething vocals that can adapt as needed for the curated type of sound we need on a project. And a *lot* more, reach out to me!

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Rock side: Evanescence, Paramore (my favourite band, especially with their older vocals and sound), Flyleaf, Taking Back Sunday, Sleeping With Sirens, Pierce The Veil, Interpol, Nothing But Thieves, Deftones, My Chemical Romance, Sleep Token, Kittie, Garbage | Acoustic, Chill, mainstream side: Meg and Dia, Clairo, Beabadoobee, Conan Gray's 2018 debut EP, Kacey Musgraves, Lana del Rey, RAYE, Lola Young, Nat Oaks, A Little Sound, Hailee Steinfeld, Alessia Cara, Echosmith, Shelly, JPEGMAFIA || Moving away from sound and influences, Pharrell Williams is a true visionary in my opinion, with everything he's done and the name he's made for himself. I also love Paramore, Billie Eilish and FINNEAS' work, especially since they started out so young like me and still keep going - all these artists are so unique and they way they've evolved their sound and what they bring to the table is so admirable.
