Mixing & Mastering Engineer

Pete Lark on SoundBetter

ASK FOR AN INTRODUCTION PRICE! Hey I'm Pete from Tampere, Finland and the owner of Only Ravens Studio. I am a mixing and mastering engineer.

I am a mixing and mastering engineer helping artists turn their tracks into clear, powerful, release-ready songs. My roots are in rock and metal, but I work across all genres and focus on preserving the artist’s intention while giving the mix clarity, impact and space.

With over 20 years of musicianship and hundreds of shows behind me, I understand how a track should feel, not just how it should sound. At Only Ravens Studio, my workflow is straightforward: clear communication, a focused mix process, and up to 3 revisions to fine-tune the final result.

If you’ve got a vision for your track, I’m here to help shape it into something you’re proud to release.

Interview with Pete Lark

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Digital. I believe that you can achieve exactly the same results with digital.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I deliver.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: I love that, when I start mixing. It is instant flow-mode. I've never experienced that fast flow.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: I would say that it’s modern and it’s old-school. It’s probably a little unstable, definately coming out of a bassist brain, but somehow it works. :D

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: I would like to work with YOU. Yes you, who is reading this now. Also with Lamb of God someday.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: There is no 3db rule. Only one rule = if it sound good, do it.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I usually work with metal music. Modern sounding metalcore or more classically sounding death metal or something between. Also rock music and the same vibe. I love all genres from classical music to rap and from jazz to metal and everything between. So someday I will mix those sort of songs as well.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: I have to say that customer service. To communicate with the clients of mine. Understanding truly what they are after and how to complish that. Also I like to think that I am very fun to work with. I tent to make stupid jokes all the time.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: I bring my own variations of styles, sound and genres that I have combined. To say it even more easy is that I love to do some awesome sounding crazy stuff on every song that I mix. Something that sticks to the listeners ears as a worm.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: Like I said on the above, with the client. But my own work process is setting up the arrangement for the song. Routing, buses, etc. I use Pomodoro -time management method to keep my ears fresh all the time. So that I can mix very objectively.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I have a fairly new home studio setup. I use brand new Macbook to mix with the latest version of Logic Pro. I use gear from Austrian Audio, Focusrite, Akai, Roland and Fender. I mix and master in-the-box, but I focus on bringing the same vibe as analog gear could get.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: That is a long list, but from bands and artists I wanna raise Iron Maiden's bassist Steve Harris, Lamb of God as a sound and vibe. Few new favorites are Polaris and The Warning. From the producer, mixing and mastering side Buster Odeholm, George Lever and Jens Bogren have made some of my favorites.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: I mix and master my clients song for a release ready hit. We start at a meeting online. Go throught the song, what my clients expectations are. List few reference songs and then they send me the stems. I mix and/or master it. We tweek it (revisions) together until it is done.
